Funeral services for Mrs. Clara B. Cummings, 50 of Athens were held
at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Carroll Springs Methodist Church.
Burial was in Carroll Springs Cemetery under the direction of Foster
& Brown Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cummings died Monday at Lakeland Medical Center.
She was born July 16, 1934 in Van Zandt County and lived in the Athens
area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Central
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Royal E. Cummings of Athens, her motther,
Hettie Lee Anderson of Athens, one son Danny R. Cummings of Athens,
two daughters Rhonda L. Vick of Mesquite and Monna L. Hillhouse
of Seagoville. two brothers, Jack Anderson of Athens, and David Anderson
of Edna, two sisters, Jane Weldon of San Angelo and Geneva Nichols
of Fort Worth and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Daisy Hodge, 77 of Athens were held at 2 p.m.
in the Central Baptist Church with Dr. Grover C. Bishop officiating.
Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of
Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Mrs. Hodge died Monday in Lakeland Medical
Center hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 22,
1905 in Corsicana. She had been a resident of Athens for the past
60 years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church and was
employed for many years with the Athens Independent School District
in the dietary department, retiring in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters Mary Randall of Dallas and Sue Hubbard
of Athens, one brother Tom Finley of Odessa, 16 grandchildren ans
27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for James T. WILLIAMS, 83 of Athens were held at
10 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home with
Rev. C.O Jackson and Rev. Tim Ray officiating. Burial followed in
the Oaklawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Williams died Wednesday in a local nursing home following a lengthy
illness.
He was born May 11, 1898 in Navarro County the son of the late Mr.
& Mrs. James S. Williams. He had been a resident of Athens since
1932, and was a retired station manager and a member of the Fellowship
Baptist Church. He was a WWI veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Williams of Athens, one son, "Hoss"
Williams, three grandsons, and one great-grandson.
Nephews served as pallbearers.

Services for Martha Mae Rogers, 50 Athens were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday
at the Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the
Willow Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Rogers died Sunday evening at her residence
following a long illness. She was born April 29, 1935 in Dallas.
She was a housewife and lived in Athens for most of her life. She
was a member of the West Athens Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Jimmy Rogers of Athens, two sons Hank
Lee Rogers and Dee Wayne Rogers of Athens, three daughters, Marsha
Diane Keeton, Cathy Wakeham and Sherryl LeAnn Rogers all of Athens,
mother Mrs. Willie Malcom of Malakoff, five brothers Charlie Malcom
of Malakoff, Johnny Malcom, Billy Ray Malcom and O. J. Malcom of
Athens, Dewey Dewayne malcom of Dallas, two sisters Pearl Circkles
of Bonham and Debra Shubert of Athens and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roy Rogers, Danny Circkles, Bobby Joe Rogers, Jackie
Circkles, Tracey Mark Boyd and Johnny Roberson.

Funeral services for Jessie J. Hodge, 85 of Athens were held at 11
a.m. Monday in the Central Baptist Church with rev. Grover Bishop
officiating. Interment was in Liberty Cemetery, Van Zandt County,
under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens. Mr.
Hodge died Friday in a Dallas hospital after a long illness. He
was born Dec. 28, 1894 in Kansas City. He had lived in Athens since
1918. He was a retired painter and paper hanger, a veteran of World
War I and a member of the Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leta Hodge of Athens, one son R.
H. Hodge of Athens, three daughters, Mrs. F.J. Hughes of Garland,
Mrs. Jack Roberson of Athens and Mrs. W.C. Bosak of Alvin, one brother
Johnnie Hodge of Athens, three sisters Mrs. Ona Ray and Mary Williams
both of Athens and Mrs. Alice Hopwood of Corsicana, 12 grandchildren
and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ira kinsey, W.A. Cecil, Harvie Price, Pete Stockard,
Grover Sims, Olly Bass Jr.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gorgie Faye Norman, 49 formerly of Athens,
were held at noon Saturday in the First Baptist Church of Benbrook.
Interment was in Lauerland Cemetery in Forth Worth. Mrs. Norman
died Thursday in a Fort Worth hosptial.
Survivors include her husband Herman Norman and two sons, Ronald
and Larry Norman all of Benbrook, one daughter Linda Reinhardt of
Ludlow Falls, Ohio, her mother, Mrs. Daisey Hodge of Athens, two
sisters Mrs. Sue Hubbard of Athens and Mrs. Mary Randall of Dallas
and four grandchildren
Nephews were pallbearers.


Services for Mrs. Callie Ophelia Frazier 75, of 704 W. Scott St.
were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Foster & Brown Funeral Chapel with
the Rev. George Decker officiating. Burial was in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Frazier died at 9:52 p.m. Saturday in a Dallas hospital following
a lengthy illness. She was a 30-resident of this area and was the
wife of H. D. Frazier who proceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1975, She
was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Walter O. Stewart and was
a member of the Cayuga Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, J. W. Frazier of Athens, three daughters
Mrs. Edith Eoff of Athens, Mrs. LaVeta Easterly of Grand Saline
and Mrs. Nellie Daniels of Dallas, five sisters Mrs. Pauline Graham
of Dallas, Mrs. Ruby Hendley of Waxahachie, Mrs. Marie Smith of Oakland
Calif and Mrs, Myrtle Davis and Mrs. Ara Meyers both of Eustace,
six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Laddie Davis, Maxie Easterly, George Phipps, D.O.
Paris, Joe Dan Hendley and J.D. Bristow.

Graveside services for Charlene Carroll, 41 of Athens were held Thursday
at 2 p.m. in the Willow Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Cleveland
officiating, burial followed under the direction of Foster & Brown
Funeral Home. Mrs. Carroll died Tuesday in Lakeland Medical Center
following a lengthy illness. She was born May 26, 1941 in Waco and
was a lifetime resident of Athens. She was a former employee of the
Athens Independent School District and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Milton (Cookie) Carroll, two sons Leslie
Glen Carroll both of Athens, one daughter Shelia Darlene Franklin
of Athens. her mother Willie Mae Malcom of Athens, five brothers
Charlie Malcom of Malakoff, Dewey Wayne Malcom of Dallas and Billy
Ray Malcom, Oscar Jefferson Malcom and Johnny Lee Malcom all of Athens,
three sisters Martha Mae Rogers and Debbie Lynn Shubert both of
Athens and Minnie Circkles of Bonham and one grandchild.
Pallbearers wer Jackie Circkles, Danny Circkles, Gary Keeton, Dewayne
Rogers, Preston Woods and William Woods.
Thursday, July 2, 1981

Funeral services for Olen Morris, 66 of Rt. 2 Athens were held at
2 p.m. Tuesday at Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Floyd
Loven and the Rev. Scott Turner officiated. Burial was in Crandall
Cemetery.
MR. Morris died Sunday June 28 after a sudden illness. He was born
May 27. 1915 in Kaufman. the son of Mr. & Mrs. George Morris. He
had lived in Athens for 17 years and was a former resident of Crandall.
He was a rancher manager for Mack Adams Ranch at the time of his
death and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Marietta Morris of Athens, a son Bruce
Roy Morris of Plano, two daughters Mrs. Jane Graham of Crandall and
Mrs. Judy Tammell of Athens, four brothers all of Crandall, Bruce
Morris, J. Roy Morris, Henry Morris, a sister Mrs. Faye Glenn of
Crandall and four grandchildren. Nephews were Pallbearers

Funeral services for John Jefferson Ray Jr., 57. 504 North Wofford
St. Athens were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Foster &
Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Grover C. Bishop, Rev. Bill Slayton
and Rev. Charles Wigley officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Memorial
Park with Foster & Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ray died Tuesday in a local hospital following a short illness.
He was born Sept 24, 1923 in Corsicana and had lived most of his
life in the Athens area. He was an employee of the Texas Clay Products
at the time of his death, was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World
War II and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gloria Dean Ray of Athens, two daughters
Mrs. Debra Lynne Jones and Mrs. Gloria Denice Quinn both of Athens,
mother Mrs. Ona Ray of Athens, three brothers Rev. Jim Ray of Corsicana.
Bill Ray of El Campo and George Ray of Trinity, three sisters
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bond of Corsicana, Mrs. Kitty Warren of Troup,
and Mrs. Naomi Richards of Bethel.
Pallbearers were Bobby Cross, Billy Comer, J.B. Newland, Junior Files,
Bobby Pillow, Eddie Cribbs, Charley Malcomb and Julio Vargas. Honorary
pallbearers were Finias McLure, Billy Walker, Charles Oliver, DR.

Services for Maudie Lee Rozelle, 73 of Athens were held at 11 a.m.
Saturday at the Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Glover C. Bishop
officiating. Interment followed in the Athens City Cemetery under
the direction of Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home. Mrs. Rozelle died Friday
in Henderson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on Aug 18, 1905
in Kemp.
Survivors include three daughter, Mrs. Mary Cannon of Sherman. Mrs.
Barbara McRae of Athens, Mrs. Dean Lewellen, two brothers Jack Roberson
of Athens and Leroy Roberson of Dallas, eight grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ira Kinsey, Carl Hall, Robert McLain, Derl Cannon,
and Rayford Tiner, Honorary pallbearers were  Kenneth Fulton and
Walter Starks.

Services for Claude Lee Strange, 60 of Athens are scheduled for 2
p.m. Thursday in the Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with the
Rev. Charles W. Wigley officiating. Burial will follow in the Payne
Cemetery. Mr. Strange died at 9;50 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital,
Born April 29, 1918 in Eustace, He had lived most of his life in
the Athens area. He was a retired mechanic and a member of the Baptist
Chruch.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mae B. Strange of Athens, five sons
Don Strange, Gary Strange and Derrell Strange all of Athens, Bob
Strange of LaRue and Wayne Strange of Terrell, two daughters Mrs.
W.H. Rhea of Tyler and Mrs. Claudia Ann Ezernack of Athens, two
brothers Harvey L. Strange of Athens and Walter Strange of Justin,
one sister Mrs. Pearl Kennermar of Denton and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Dan Lee Hopwood, 60 of Athens were held 2 p.
m. Saturday May 4 at the Foster & Brown Funeral Home with the Rev.
C.O. Jackson Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Athens City Cemetery.
Mr. Hopwood died May 1 at an Athens hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born April 23, 1925 in Texas and had been an Athens resident
the past 20 years, formerly residing in Maysville Ky, He owned and
operated the Hopwood Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Co. He was
a baptist and a member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Pat, his mother Alice of Athens, three
sons Dan Lee Hopwood Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nelson and Doug Both
of Mysville Ky, two stepsons Jerry McCarty of Athens and Thomas Kendall
of Athens, two brothers David of Corpus Christi, and Skeeter of Dallas,
five sisters Margaret Odom and Dorothy Loper both of Athens and
Nancy Garrett, Janille Griffin and Mattie Dell Jones all of Corsicana
and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kemper Gleason, J. C. Lindley, Bob Hawkins, Jay
Gregg, Delbert Lewis, Larry Fletcher and Jack Milson
Funeral services for Mrs. Alton Dodd, 68 of 401 Dull Averiette were
held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Central Baptist Church with the Rev.
Grover C. Bishop and Dr. Ralph Phelps officiating. Burial was in
Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Carroll & Lehr Funeral
Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County
and attended Summer Hill Schools. She was the former Hazel Pool and
was married to Alton Dodd Dec. 25, 1930 in Athens. She was a member
of the Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband the Rev. Alton Dodd of Athens, five
brothers Ennis Pool of Rialto, Calif, Marlin "Buck" Pool of Trinidad,
Colo, Raymond Pool Of Murfeesboro, Tenn, and L. L. "Doc" Pool of
Athens, three sisters Mrs. Mabel Wallace of Arlington, Mrs. Effie
Gandy of Lufkin and Mrs. Novice Sifford of Athens and a number of
nieces and Nephews.

Graveside services for Edward F. Price, 67 of Baxter Community were
conducted Saturday at Shelby Chapel Cemetery with Athens I00F Lodgemembers
officiating. Burial servies were under the direction of Foster &
Brown Funeral Home of Athens. Mr. Price died Wednesday in a Dallas
hospital after a long illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1917 in Athens.
He lived for most of his life in the Athens area. He was a member
of the I00F lodge in Athens and was a Veteran of World War II having
served with occupation forces in Japan following action in the Asiatic-
Pacific theater of war operations.
He is survived by his wife Letha of Baxter Community a son and daughter-
in-law Edward and Sharon Price of Florida a daughter-in-law Nora
Bass of Athens two brothers Bill of Houston and Ray of Coolidge,
three sisters Estelle Ditto of Athens, Edna Strange of Athens, and
Mrs. Johnnie Hyett of Athens and four grandchildren.

Services for Willie Bell Hodge, 78 of Athens were held Thursday Jan
30 in Central Baptist Church in Athens with Rev. Grover C. Bishop
officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens under
the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens. Mrs. Hodge
died Monday in an Athens hosptial after a long illness. She was born
Dec. 7, 1907 in Athens and lived most of her life in the area. She
was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Athens. She was proceded
in death by her daughter Betty Roberts.
She is survived by her husband John of Athens one sister Dessie Ross
of Athens and four grandchildren.

Services for James Walter Frazier, 65 of Athens were held Wednesday
in Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Mr. Frazier was born Dec. 12, 1920 in Henderson County. He was a
building services contractor. He was also a Baptist and a Veteran
of service with the U.S. Army Airforce during World War II.
He is survived by his wife Juanita of Athens, one daughter Debra
Tucker of Houston, three sisters Edith Eoff of Athens, LaVita Easterly
of Grand Saline, Nellie Sue Daniels of Dallas, one step-grandson
and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Preston Perkins, 71 of Athens are scheduled for 11 a.
m. Saturday in Carroll-Lehr Memorial Chapel in Athens with Revs.
J.R. Pruett and Walter Ferrell officicating. Burial will be in Oaklawn
Memorial Park. Mr. Perkins died Thursday in an Athens hospital after
a long illness. He was born July 1, 1914 in Henderson County and
resided in Athens for 39 years. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist
Church in Athens and was a retired Farmer and Truck Driver.
He is survived by his wife, Belle Perkins of Athens, a son Jerry
W. Perkins of Athens, a daughter Linda Land of Athens, two brothers
John Truman Perkins of Mesquite and Dewayne Perkins of Grand Prairie,
four sisters, Mrs. Wilmer Chaney of Martin Mills, Faye Halbrook
and Marie Fair both of Carrollton, and Francis Gilbert of Ark. three
grandchildren Leah Land, Matthew Land and Jeremy Perkins. Nephews
will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis

Graveside services for Dessie Mae Ross, 80 of Athens were held Thursday
in Athens City Cemetery with Dr. Grover C. Bishop officiating. Services
were conducted under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home
of Athens. Miss Ross died Tuesday in Lakeland Medical Center. She
was born June 11, 1906 in Athens and lived in Athens for her entire
life. She was an employee of Athens Laundry and a member of the Central
Baptist Church.
She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Illa Strother of Dallas,

Services for Lillian Beatrice Fisher, 74 of Athens are scheduled
for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel in
Athens with Dr. Grover C. Bishop and the Rev. Jack Burgess officiating.
Burial will be in Shelby Chapel Cemetery near Athens. Mrs. Fisher
died Tuesday in Lakeland Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan 19, 1912 in the Bethel Community in Henderson County.
She lived in Athens for all of her life. She was a housewife and
a member of the Central Baptist Church in Athens.
She is survived by three sons, Ernest O. Fisher of Athens, Aubrey
M. Fisher of Bowie and Dillis Lee Fisher of Alvarado, four brothers,
Albert Gartman of Arlington, Glen Gartman of Arlington, Earl Gartman
of Clute and James Gartman of Athens, four sisters Georgia Weatherford
of Athens, Vera Moss of Athens, Deller Knox of Canton, and Faye Burnett
of Athens, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews.

Robert (BO) Roberson, 141 Tillison Street, Athens, a painter, died
suddenly early Monday morning. He was dead on arrival at Memorial
hospital at 3;20 a.m. Mr. Roberson 56, was a native of Malakoff and
lived most of his life in Athens. He was a Veteran of World War II.
Services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Carroll and Lehr
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.B. Trent officiating. Burial
was at Cottonwood.
Mr. Roberson is survived by his wife, Juanita his mother Mrs. Ida
Roberson of Malakoff two brothers Jack Roberson of Athens and Leroy
Roberson of Dallas, three sisters Mrs. Maudie Rozelle, Mrs. Ruby
Hulsey and Mrs. Loree Pate all of Athens

Funeral services for Charlie Ray Cox, 34 of the Crescent Heights
Community, Athens Route 1 were held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Crescent
Heights Baptist Church. The Rev. C.D. Dorman and the Rev. Billy Watson
conducted the services and burial was in the Red Hill Cemetery. The
Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Cox died Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Veterans hospital at Dallas
after a lengthy illness. He was born in Henderson County Sept. 27
1935 and had lived in this County all of his life. He was a graduate
of Athens High School and a Stockman. He was a Baptist and a Veteran
of the Korean War. He was married to the former Pauline Griffin of
Brownsboro in 1955.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Pauline Cox of Athens, two sons,
Johnny and Jimmy Cox both of Athens, his mother Mrs. Loree Pate of
Athens, one brother, Jerry Cox of Kilgore and his grandmother Mrs.
Ida Roberson of Athens.
Pallbearers were George Wyatts, Dan Lancaster, Ralph Duncan, Holly
Morrow, Bobby Tindel, and Kenneth McGee
Hawk Scott, 73 died in a Dallas hospital Saturday at 11;30 p.m. after
a brief illness. Born in Malakoff November 6, 1896, he moved to Murchison
as a child and lived there untill moving to Athens 10 years ago.
He was a retired employee of Cotton Belt Railroad, his wife Mrs.
Jackie Scott died Sept. 26, 1969.
Mr. Scott is survived by four sons, Vernon Scott of Dallas, Roy Scott
of Jacksonville, and Gerald Scott and Kenneth Scott of Garland, four
daughters, Mrs. Irene Griffin of Frisco, Mrs. Flogene Little of El
Paso and Mrs. Bonnie Jo Gardner and Mrs. Eloise Gardner both of Kaufman,
one sister, Mrs. Lucie Cook of Athens and 18 grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.
m. in Carroll & Lehr Memory Chapel with the Rev. H.C. Parker and
the Rev. Grady Cook officiating and burial will be in Shelby Chapel
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Montgomery, Richard Scott, Woodrow Powell,
Gary Good, Dan Gardner and W.A. Little
Mrs. Alma A. Watkins, 80 died in a Irving hospital Monday night following
a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
in the Chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home. Burial was in Alligator
Cemetery of Navarro County. Mrs. Watkins had been living in Irving
for the past few months. Previously, she had made her home in Childress
for 35 years. She was reared in the Athens area and she was a member
of the Baptist church. She was a former Hotel Operator.
She is survived by two sons, Edward F. Price of Athens and Roy B.
Price of Mexia, one daughter, Mrs. Estelle Ditto of Wills Point,
two step-sons, Jack Price of Alta Loma and Bill Price of Houston,
three step-daughters, Mrs. Virgie Smith and Mrs. Edna Strange both
of Athens and Mrs. O.L. Hyett of Palestine, 16 grandchildren and
26 great-grandchildren
Memorial services for James Larkin (Jack) Price, 77 were held Sept.
13 in Haynes Memorial Chapel in Houston and burial was in Wood Lawn
Cemetery. Mr. Price died on Sept. 10 in a Galveston hospital after
a lengthy illness. Mr. Price was born in Athens on April 12, 1900.
He lived in Athens and Henderson County for 43 years before moving
to South Texas where he resided untill his death.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Price of Alta Loma, one son,
Rudolph Price of Dallas, two daughters Mrs. Dorothy Fritache of
Houston and Mrs. Bernice Giles of Kentucky, three brothers, Bill
Price of Houston, Edward F. Price of Athens and Roy Price of Mexia,
four sisters, Mrs. Virgie Smith and Mrs. Edna Strange of Athens,
Mrs. Johnnie Hyett of Palestine and Mrs. Estelle Ditto of Wills
Point and six grandchildren

SADNESS HAS COME TO OUR COMMUNITY THIS PAST WEEK WITH THE PASSING
OF RUPERT ROGERS, ALSO CECIL RHODES AND ARTHUR MCGEE. WE ALSO HEARD
THAT BRUCE LAUDERDALE PASSED AWAY IN A HOUSTON HOSPITAL. OUR SYMPATHY
GOES OUT TO EACH FAMILY OF THESE WHO HAS BEEN A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY
AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER.

Funeral services for George I. Holloway, 74 of Malakoff were held
at 2 p.m. Friday, October 9 in the Paschal Funeral Home Chapel in
Malakoff with the VFW in charge of services. Burial followed in the
Malakoff City Cemetery. Mr. Holloway died October 7 in Athens following
a lengthy illness. He was born July 17, 1907 in Oklahoma. He was
a retired farmer and Navy Veteran of World War II. He had lived most
of his life in Malakoff.
Survivors include his wife Pearl Holloway of Malakoff, 2 sons Ron
Holloway and Danny Holloway both of Athens, 2 daughters Loris Waters
of Grand Prairie and Jessie Holloway of Malakoff, 1 foster daughter
Virginia McCormick of Caney City, 4 brothers L.R. Holloway of Mount
Vernon, New York, Elvin Holloway of Waco, Hershal Holloway of Washington
and Howard Holloway of Dallas, 1 sister Jewell Waller of Terrell,

Services for John Ray, 75 of Athens were held Sunday afternoon at
the Hassell and Foster Funeral Home. The Rev. J.W. Thomison conducted
the services and burial was in Shelby Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Ray died
unexpectedly Saturday afternoon in and Athens hospital. He was born
in Henderson County and lived in Athen all of his life, He was a
retired Plumber, a member of the Assembly Of God Church and a Veteran
of World War I.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ona Ray of Athens, four sons John
Ray Jr. and Jim Ray both of Athens, Bill Ray of Eagle Lake and George
Ray of Brownsboro, three daughters, Mrs. T.N. Bond of Highlands and

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Hassell & Foster
Chapel for Lawson E. Till Sr., 80 of Athens who died Monday at 10
a.m. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Henderson County Memorial
Hospital from an apparent heart attack. Services were held at 2 p.
m. with the Rev. W.L. Hampton officicating. and burial was in Carroll
Springs Cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers.
Mr. Till is survived by his wife Mrs. Elizabeth Till of Athens, one
son, Lawson E. Till Jr. of Athens, three brothers, Bud Till of Athens,
and Arch Till and Adcus Till both of Carroll Springs, one sister,
Mrs. Lizzie
Whistler of Athens and one grandchild. Mr. Till was born in Carroll
Springs and had lived there most of his life. He moved to Athens
in 1961. He was a retired farmer and a Veteran of World War I. He
was a member of the Methodist Church.
Jack Couch

Jack Couch, 53 of Route 2, Athens died Monday at 6;20 p.m. after
becoming suddenly ill. A former employee of the Western Auto Store,
Mr. Couch loved most of his life in the Athens area. Funeral services
were held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Hassell & Foster Chapel
with the Rev. Everett McCollum officicating. Burial was in the Davis
Cemetery. Mr. Couch was a member of the Methodist Church, The American
Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
He was a Veteran of World War II. His wife proceded him in death
in June 1971.
Survivors include one son, Ray Couch of Athens, two daughters, Mrs.
James Chitty and Miss. Barbara Couch both of Athens, three brothers,
George B. Couch and Billy Joe Couch both of Dallas and Mack Couch
of Athens, four sisters, Mrs. Frnacis Hayes of Mesquite, Mrs. Beatrice
Pickle of Amarillo, Mrs. Bobbie Price of Fort Worth and Mrs. Jessie
Herriage of Athens and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Ida Roberson

Mrs. Ida T. Roberson, 83 of Athens died early Friday afternoon at
Henderson County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Roberson
was a native of Henderson County and lived most of her life in this
area. Funeral services were held Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Carroll
& Lehr Memory Chapel with Rev. Grover C. Bishop officiating. Burial
was in Cottonwood Cemetery. Mrs. Roberson was a member of the Baptist
Church.
She is survived by two sons, LeRoy Roberson of Dallas, and Jack Roberson
of Athens, three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Hulsey, Mrs. Loree Pate and
Mrs. Maudie Rozelle all of Athens, one sister Mrs. Effie Shultz of
Kerens, 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Oran Bass

Funeral services for Oran Bass, 68 of Athens were held at 10 a.m.
Tuesday at Shelby Chapel with the Rev. Otis Munns officicating.
Burial was in Shelby Chapel Cemetery under the direction of the Eubank
Funeral Home of Canton. Mr. Bass a retired farmer and lifelong resident
of Henderson County died early Sunday in the County Jail. Mr. Bass
was picked up by an ambulance shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday at a
home on Bishop street where he was staying. police said he was examined
at Henderson County Memorail Hospital and was not admitted. After
he was released at the hospital city officers took him to jail. He
died there during the night.
Mr. Bass is survived by three sons, including Ernest Bass of Athens,
a brother, A.R. bass of Athens, five sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae Jackson
of Tyler, Mrs. Margaret Childress, Mrs. Lesslie Caldwell and Miss
Dessie Bass all of Tucson and Mrs. Mildred Cannon of Palestine, 11
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Justice of the Peace
Bill Richards ordered Autopsy.

Harvey Leroy Williams, 78 a resident of Athens since 1927 died Tuesday
afternoon at Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Williams
was a Trucker and dealt in the Cattle trading bussiness. He was a
member of the First Assembly of God Church. Services will be held
Thursday at 3 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church ubder the
direction of Hassell & Foster Funeral Home. Officicating Ministers
will be the Rev. J.W. Thomison and the Rev. George Griffin. Burial
will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ella Caldwell (1906-1971)

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Caldwell, 65 of Athens were held Monday
afternoon at the Carroll & Lehr Memory Chapel. The Rev. Thomas McKee
conducted the services and the burial was at the Meredith Camp Ground.
Mrs. Caldwell died unexpectedly Saturday at 5 p.m. at her home.
She was born in White Bluff, Tenn, Jan. 16, 1906 and had been a resident
of Henderson County since 1957. She was a former resident of Los
Angeles Calif. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Murchison.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Caldwell of Athens, one sister,
Mrs. Pearl Sewell of Decatur, Ga. and several nieces and Nephews
Steve Rogers ( 1971)

Funeral services for Steve Rogers, 75 of Corsicana, a former resident
of Henderson County were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hassell & Foster
Chapel. The Rev. James Davis and the Rev. Bill Grimes officicated
and burial was in Shelby Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Rogers died Saturday
at 3;30 a.m. at Memorial hospital at Corsicana after a long illness.
He was born in Henderson County and lived in this county untill
moving to Corsicana six months ago. He was a retired farmer and a
Baptist.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Pauline Rogers of Corsicana, three sons,
J.E. Rogers of Corsicana and Elton Rogers and Alvin Rogers both

Elton Stone
Funeral services for George Elton Stone, 37 were held at 2 p.m. Sunday
in the Chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Fraze
and the Rev. Reggie Berry officicating. Burial was in Rome Cemetery.
Mr. Stone a lifetime resident of Henderson County died early Saturday
morning. He was employed by Curtis Mathis Mfg. Co. At the time of
his death.

Lawrence Porter Hodge

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Central Baptist
Church for Lawrence Porter Hodge, 64 of Athens fireman who died suddenly
Friday after battling a grass fire the Roy Jensen farm near Highway
19 about eight miles north of Athens. The Rev. Bill Slayton will conduct
the services and the Hassell & Foster Funeral Home will be in charge
of arrangements. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Park. Mr.
Hodge was born in Iowa, Kansas and had been a resident of Athens
since 1925, moving here from Corsicana. He was a member of the Central
Baptist Church, the IOOF Lodge in Athens and a Veteran of World War I.
Survivors are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Magee of Crafton,
Va, Mrs. Mary Baty of Dallas, Mrs. Georgie Norman and Mrs. Sue Crum
of Fort Worth, two brothers, Jess and Johnnie Hodge of Athens, three
sisters, Mrs. Alice Hopwood of Corsicana, and Mrs. Mary Williams
and Mrs. Ona Ray of Athens and 15 grandchildren.
Jerry Cox ( 1940-1992 )

Services for Jerry W. "Fat Cat" Cox, 52 Longview and native of Athens
are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Radar Funeral Home Chapel
in Longview with the Rev. Jay Michael Hill officicating. Burial will
be in Elder Cemetery. Mr. Cox died Friday in a Longview hospital.
He was born July 3,1940. He had lived in the Longview area over
20 years and was a Truck Driver.
Survivors include his wife Polly Cox of Longview, a daughter Susan
Cox of Longview, nieces, nephews and cousins.
H.W. Donehoo ( 1906 - 1970)

Funeral services were held at Carroll & Lehr Memory Chapel Friday
at 3;30 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Eads officicating and Burial was
in Athens City Cemetery. H.W. Donehoo, 64 died in a local hospital
at 3;40 a.m. Thursday after a brief illness. Mr. Donehoo had lived
in Athens almost all his life and was a member of West Athens Baptist
Church.
Survivors are his wife, one son Glenn Donehoo of Garland, one daughter,
Mrs. Tim Crecelius (Nelda) of Tyler, three brothers and three sisters and
two grandchildren.
Fred Rogers (1936-1971)

Fred Rogers, 35 year old rancher of Athens Route 2, died Saturday
morning at 3 o'clock in a Tyler hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Wortham, Mr. Rogers lived most of his life in Athens.
He was a member of the Baptist Church. Services were held Sunday
at 4 p.m. at the Hassell and Foster Chapel with the Rev. Don Hiser
officicating. Burial was at Shelby Chapel.
Surviving are his wife Mrs. Ruby Rogers of Athens, two sons, Billy
& Rickie Rogers both of Athens, his father O.F. Rogers of Athens
and four brothers, Doyle Rogers, Ray Rogers, and Donnie Rogers all
of Athens and James Rogers of Grand Prairie.
Daisy Magee ( 1925-1976 )

Mrs. Daisy Ruth Magee, 51 of South Park Mobil Home Estate, Tyler
died Tuesday morning in a Tyler hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Foster
& Brown Funeral Home with Elder Jewell Hoppie officicating. Burial
will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Magee was born Jan. 9,
1925 in Corsicana and had been a Athens resident untill two and
one half years ago, when she moved to Tyler. She had served as a
Nurse in the Athens area for many years. Mrs. Magee was a member
of the Church of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Daisy Hodge of Athens, her husband
Bill Magee of Tyler, two sons Herbert H. Hamilton of Waco and Michael
D. Magee of Athens, two daughters, Mrs. Billie Ruth Warmke of Athens
and Mrs. Darlene Gunter of Tyler, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Randall
of Dallas, Mrs. Georgie Norman of Fort Worth, and Mrs. Sue Hubbard
of Athens. Eight grandchildren.

Mrs Lurlene Tinney ( 1913-1976)
Mrs. Lurlene V. Tinney, 63 of Athens died at her home Tuesday morning
following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are set for 10 a.m.
Thursday at the United Methodist Church of Athens with the Rev.
Faulk Landrum and the Rev. Jose Maestas officicating. Burial will
follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Tinney was born Aug, 8, 1913
in Lindale untill she moved to Athens 34 years ago. She had been
an employed by the Henderson Department Store for 15 years. Mrs.
Tinney was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie Morris Tinney of Athens, four
sons, Bob Tinney of Athens, Danny Tinney of Mineola, Eddy Joe Tinny
of San Antonio, Larry Tinney of Dallas, one daughter, Mrs. Andy Morrison
of Tyler, four sisters, Mrs. Lois Pittman of Lindale, Mrs. Lura Pittman

Heart Attack Claims Businessman

Raymond W. Robbins (photo), 72 of Athens, civic church and club leader died
Wednesday at 9;20 p.m. in an Athens hospital of a heart attack suffered
an hour earlier. Funeral services were held Thursday at 3;30 p.m.
at the Carroll & Lehr Memory Chapel with the Rev. Hoyt Boles of
Denton and Dr. Samuel L. Terry of San Antonio officating. Burial
was in Athens City Cemetery. Robbins was born in the New York Community
of Henderson County and attended school in Athens. He was one of
the founders in 1912 of Robbins Bros. Wholesale Grocery and was active
in the firm untill he retired last March. He was a past president
of the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and assisted in the organization
of the first chamber in Athens.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters Mrs. Joe Fletcher of Houston,
and Mrs. Dean Turner of Henderson, two brothers John I. Robbins
and Forrest L. Robbins both of Athens, and three grandchidlren, Robbin
Fletcher, and Margaret Fletcher of Houston, and Ray Turner of Henderson.

Pallbearers were Durwood Fite, Bill Beaird, Haskell Gamble, M. K.
Miller Jr., Billy Bob Allen, and Grady Graham. Honorary pallbearers
were, members of the Kiwanis Club of Athens.

C.C. Adrian of Athens a politcal figure in Henderson County for almost
40 years died Wednesday morning in a local nursing home after a long
illness. He was 79. Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the
First Methodist Church with the Rev. Faulk Landrum officating. Burial
will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park. The Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements. Born in Van Zandt County, Mr. Adrian
moved to Athens 40 years ago. He was City Clerk of Athens for four
years in the 1930s and served one term as district clerk in the 40s.
He retired in Feburary of 1970 after serving 11 years as Justice
of the Peace of precint one. Mr. Adrian was a member of the Methodist
Church and Athens Masonic Lodge No. 165. He was a member of the lodge
for 50 years. Mr. Adrian married the former Miss. Hassie Irwin on
May 4, 1919 at Ben Wheeler. She survives.
Other Survivors are one son, George Buck Adrian of Kansas, City,
one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lou Harvey of Dallas and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Cecil Harris, 47 (1925) of Athens will be held Thursday
at 2 p.m. at the Hassell & Foster Chapel. Rev. Marvin Johnson will
officate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park. Mr. Harris died
Tuesday morning in a Corsicana hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Harris a lifelong resident of Athens was a retired empoyee of
Athens Canning Company.

Mrs. Carlos Pate, 54 (1920) died at 9;20 a.m. Monday in a local hosptial
after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.

officating. and burial was in Cottonwood Cemetery. Born in Mankin
near Trinidad, Mrs. Pate had lived in Athens for the past 33 years.
She and Carlos Pate married in Tyler September27,1950.

step-daughters, Mrs. Shirley Moore of Santa Ana, Calif, and Mrs.

Funeral services for Wiley F. Rozelle, 75 (1897) of 425 W. Larkin were
held at 2 p.m. Wedensday with the Rev. Grover C. Bishop officiating.
Burial was in the Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Carroll
& Lehr Funeral Home. Mr. Rozelle died at 9;35 p.m. Monday in a local
nursing home following a lengthy illness. A native of Kaufman County,
Mr. Rozelle moved to Athens some 38 years ago. He was a well known
retired Insurance Salesman and had represented several major Insurance
Companies in Athens.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Maudie Lee Rozelle of Athens, three
daughters Mrs. Barbara Jean McRae of Athens and Mrs. Dean Lewellen
of Dallas, and Mrs. Mary Jo Cannon of Sherman, two step-brothers,

Final services for Mrs. Mabel Pearl Reid, 60 (1914) of Athens were held
at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel of
Athens with the Rev. Billy Rasco officating. Burial was in the Ash
Cemetery. Mrs. Reid died Monday afternoon at a Corsicana Hospital
after a long illness. A native of Cushing, she had lived in Athens
50 years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Reid of Athens, three daughters,
Mrs. Louise Wilson, Mrs. Marie Henson and Mrs. Diane Harris all
of Athens, one sister Mrs. Ethel Speake of Athens and four grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Warner Roberson, of Athens were set
for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carroll & Lehr Chapel. The Rev. Alton Dodd
officated. Mrs. Roberson, 80 (1894) passed away late Friday at Henderson
County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Roberson was
born in Kaufman County and later lived in the Cottonwood Community
and Corsicana. She had lived in Athens for the past 26 years and
was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Athens. Her husband
C.J. Roberson preceded her in death in 1955. Interment was at the
Meredith Camp Grounds.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Marie Jameson and Mrs. Mattie
Howell both of Athens, one brother, John Warner of Britton Tx, one
sister, Mrs. Ethel Gilliam of Corsicana, three grandchildren and
17 great-grandchildren.
Bryan Strange- March 21, 1972

Bryan Strange, of the Baxter Community, a retired rancher, died Tuesday
at 4;40 p.m. after an extended illness. He was 70 years old. (1902) Mr.
Strange a native of Henderson County was formerly employed by the
Robbins Brothers Ranch, He was a Baptist. Services are set for Thursday
at 11 a.m. at the Carroll & Lehr Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Hurbert
Burch and Sister Agnes Sorrells officating. Burial will be in Payne
Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosie Strange of Baxter, four brothers,
Harvey Strange, and Claude Strange both of Athens Walter Strange

Funeral services for Willie Calhoun Adair, 70, of Route 4, Athens were held
Thursday afternoon at the Eubank Funeral Chapel at Canton.

The Rev. Doug Cannady of Athens officiated and burial was in the
Liberty Cemetery in Van Zandt County.

Mr. Adair died Wednesday at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Services for Mrs. Winnie Davis Adair, 86, Athens, are scheduled for 4 p.m.

Mrs. Adair died Friday in an Athens nursing center after a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 27, 1900, in Henderson County. She was a member of
Central Baptist Church in Athens. She was a housewife and lifelong resident of Henderson County.

Survivors include three sons, Harvey Adair and Herbert Adair, both of Athens, and
Marvin Adair, Dallas; nine grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Slaton dies; Rites Thursday


Mrs. Minnie Slaton, 83, passed away at her home on Kemp Lake Road
at 4:20 p.m., Tuesday after a long illness.

She lived most of her life in Henderson County and Athens, and was a
member of the ??Thomas Slaton, died April 6, 1956.

Mrs. Slaton is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Winnie Adair and Mrs.
Jesse Hodges, both of Athens; three half-brothers, Tolbert Maness of
Huntsville, and Emory Maness and Tommy Maness, both of Houston,
and three grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Hassell and Foster Chapel
with the Rev. T. L. Slimp and Alton Dodd officiating, and burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.
(This is my great grandmother. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church,
Athens, Henderson Co., Texas. She and husband, Thomas Bloomer Slaton raised
a girl, Leta Pool. Leta Pool married Jesse Hodges. She was listed in the Slaton
household on the 1920 Van Zandt Co., Texas census. Thomas Bloomer Slaton died
April 6, 1956 in Henderson County Texas.) Fran Bethea

Funeral services for Charlie T. Dotson, 85, of Athens, will be held at
2 p.m. Thursday in West Athens Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Eads
and Rev. David Hill officiating.

Interment will be in Morris Cemetery in Van Zandt County,
under direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.

Mr. Dotson died Tuesday in Henderson County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 31, *1985 (*should be1895) in Erath County. He lived in the
Athens area the past 25 years, and formerly lived in Van Zandt County.
He was a member of West Athens Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Effie O. Dotson of Athens; one son, Claud
Dotson of Troup; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Adair of Athens; one step-daughter,
Mrs. Addie Lee Benack of Athens; three stepsons, Sam Lindsey of Conroe,
Joe Lindsey of Thornton, and Jack Lindsey of Chicago, Ill; eight grandchildren;
and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews, J.R. Boyd, Bud Boyd, Mann Boyd, Dugan Boyd,
Glenn Chipley and Clinton Chipley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Worsham, Kenneth Dotson, Ron Simmons
and O.Z. Benton.
