Services for Mrs. Ruth E. Carter, 80 of Athens are set for 3 p.m.
Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Malakoff with the
Rev. Randy Warren officiating.
Interment will follow in the Post Oak Cemetery with Foster &
Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Carter died at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital
following a short illness.
She was born Sept. 26, 1898 in Gilmer and had lived in the Athens
area since 1929. She was a member of the United Methodist Church
and preceded
in death by her husband, the Rev. A. D. Carter, in 1968.
Survivors include five sons, Horace Lynn Carter of Sherman, J. M.
Carter of Gonzales, La., A. D. Carter Jr. of Cleveland, D. O.
Carter of Carrollton and
Howard T. Carter of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Mrs.
Frances Womack and Mrs. Iris Jean Turner of Athens, Mrs. Bobbie
Blake of Humble and
Mrs. Bessie Philbrick of Pecos; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Leslie
Franklin of Malakoff, Mrs. Jessie McWhorter of Athens and Mrs.
Inez Hill of Tyler;
one sister, Mrs. Lodi McGlathry of Tyler; 18 grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren and 17
step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Buster Carter, Lester Rogers, Bo Carter,
Ralph Carter, Leman Rogers and R. L. Starkes.
