Obituary
Funeral services for R. Raymond Pierce,
62, Route 6, Palestine, who died Wednesday in an Athens hospital
after a short illness, were held Thursday afternoon at the
Friendship Baptist Church in the Blackfoot community. The Rev.
Marvin Johnson and Rev. Bill Powers
conducted the services and burial was in the Liberty Cemetery.
The Hassell and Foster Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Pierce, an employee of an Athens industrial
firm until five weeks ago, was a resident of the Springfield
community in Anderson County most of his life. Survivors are his
mother, Mrs. W.I. Adams of Palestine; wife Mrs.
Ola Pierce of Springfield; three sons, Ruben Pierce
of Palestine, S.D. Pierce
of Athens, and Darrell Pierce of Springfield;
three daughters, Mrs. Arlene Wardell of Dallas,
Mrs. Gloria Halbert of Mesquite and Mrs. Sue Locke
of Cross Roads; four brothers, Lester Pierce of
Athens, L.T. Pierce of Houston, T.D. Pierce
of Palestine and Meridian Pierce of Jal, N.M.;
eight sisters, Mrs. Herald Ezell of Montalba,
Mrs. Thelma Schmidt of Dallas, Mrs. Ross Costlow,
Mrs. Eugene Costlow and Mrs. Willie Johnson
of Palestine,
Mrs. Jack Mills of Fort Worth, Mrs. Milford Hilton
of Palestine, and Mrs. Earl Newton of Houston,
and 19 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dick Thornton, Charlie Jenkins,
Hampton Pickle, J.W. McGee,
Vernon Jackson and Clifford Jeffcoat.
