Myra Elizabeth Drew, February 5, 1937

Pneumonia Friday morning claimed the life of Mrs. Myra Elizabeth Drew, a resident of the Baxter community since 1902.  Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Davis Cemetery where interment will follow.  The deceased is survived by a number of children, including J.E. Drew of Corsicana, who came here Friday morning to complete arrangements at the Carroll & Lehr Undertaking Co.  Mrs. Drew was a native of Arkansas.

 

Jim Bob Sanders,  October 28, 1945

Miss Jim Bob Sanders of Athens employee of a brokerage firm in Tyler was found dead in her room there Sunday night about 10 o'clock.  She died of natural causes, possibly a heart attack.  Her roommate, Miss Mary Webb, discovered the body when she returned home, and it was believed she had been dead since about 5 p.m. Sunday.  Miss Sanders was born in Athens on May 24, 1925, and had been in Tyler only a short time.  She attended school in Athens and had been a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church for the last five years.  Surviving are her parents Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Sanders of Athens; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Perry; two brothers, Perry Sanders of Mineola, adn Charles Sanders of Athens; and four sisters, Mrs. R.W. Fuller, Frances Sanders, Gladys Hawkins, and Thelma Hawkins, all of Athens.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at theFundamental Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. John Duckett officiating, Burial was in the City Cemetery.  Pallbears were Cameron Mitcham, Gilbert Perry, Melford Graham, Buck Williford, Buddy Thompson, and J.T. Trotman.  The Hassell and Foster Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Nelda June Drew, December 31, 1946

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Tuesday evening at 2:30 for Nelda Drew, small child of  Mr. and Mrs. Robert Drew of Baxter, who died in Dallas Sunday morning.  She was under treatment of a brain specialist there.  The child had not been well since she was run over by a car driven by Bentley Woods' son near LaPoynor last summer. Rev. John Duckett, pastor of the Fundamental Baptist Church of Athens held services..  Burial was in the LaRue Cemetery.  Besides her parents, she is servived by a sister, Robbie Sue, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Tiner of LaRue.   Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Hallmark and children, Pearl and Melba; Mrs. Billy Hallmark; Mr. and Mrs. Denton Harris of Dallas; PFC and Mrs. Tilman Harris of Brownwood; PFC adn Mrs. Bill Tiner of Mississippi; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Huggins and children of Palestine.

 

Gladys Marie Hanks, October 29, 1971

Mrs. Gladys Marie Hanks of Carroll Springs died Friday afternoon at Henderson County Memorial Hospital at the age of 43.  She had been ill for some time.  Mrs. Hanks spent most of her life in the Carroll Springs community.  She wass a member of the Baptist Church.  Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hassell and Foster Chapel with the Rev. Pink Halcomb officiating.  Burial will be in the County Line Cemetery.  Surviving are her widower, J.C. Hanks of Carroll Springs; one son, Joe D. Hanks of Carroll Springs; one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Sue Brewer of Athens; her mother, Mes. Charlie Sanders, Sr. of Athens; two brothers, Charles Sanders, Jr. of Athens and Perry Sanders of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. R.W. Fuller, Mrs. Joe A. Trammell, and Mrs. Don Murphree, all of Athens; and five grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be R.W. Fuller, Joe Trammell, Leroy McElrath, John S. Staines, Joe Trammell, Jr. and Larry Sheeley.

 

Addie Jewel Little,  June 6, 1980

Funeral services for Mrs. Addie J. Little, 72, of Athens are set for 4 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church with the Revs. Archie Fleming and Jim Bankston and Dr. Stanley Carter officiating.  Burial will be at the LaRue Cemetery under the direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.  Mrs. Little died late Friday afternoon at a local hosiptal after a long illness.  She was a native of Baxter Community and had lived in the area all her life.  Mrs. Little was a member of the United Medhodist Church and the Christian Worker Sunday School Class.  Survivors are her husband, E.J. (Jack) Little of Athens; four sons, Coy Hayden Little of Poynor, Bobby Jack Little of Athens, George Wayne Little of Athens, Johnny Drew Little of Baxter; a daughter, Mrs. Addie Jo Curry of LaRue; two brothers, James Drew of Corsicana and Robert Drew of Athens; three sisters all from Athens, Mrs. Ella Sanders, Mrs. Effie Tores, and Mrs. Clara Evans; and 11 grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Thacker Bollinger, Harris Ballow, Jimmy Wyrick, Jimmy Mitchell, Art Tarlton, and Buford McLaughlin.  Honorary pallbearers are Jack Life, Willie Moore, Winston Reagan, Guy Landis, Tim B. Montgomery, Brient Lookabaugh and Dean McGee.

 

R.W. Fuller, June 15, 1980

Funeral services for R.W. Fuller, 58, of Athens, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Carroll and Lehr Memory Chapel with Rev. Grover Bishop officiating.  Interment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Mr. Fuller died Sunday in his home after a brief illness.  He was born May 2, 1922, in Rome community, near Athens.  He attended Henderson County Junior College and was an army verteran of World War II.  He was forman of the maintenance department of the City of Athens 21 years.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Fuller of Athens; a foster son, Benny Cartlidge of Lancaster; and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Anding and Mrs. Ethel Trammell of Athens.  Pallbearers will be Larry Anding, Joe Hanks, Joe Trammell, Jr., Jerry Anding, Kenny Bergman, Harold Brooks, Bobby Trammell, and Bobby Cartlidge.  Honorary pallbearers are Cody Thompson, Nolan Martin, Don Harriage, Randy Webb, H. Moore, Joe Trammell, Sr., L.V. Meeker, Gary Orr and Joe Orr.

 

Deborah Linn Trammell, March 6, 1982

Funeral services for Deborah (Debbie) Linn Trammell, 24, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Foster and Brown Funeral Home with Rev. C.O. Jackson, Jr. and Rev. Ronnie Glover officiating.  Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Mrs. Trammell died Saturday morning in the local hospital following a lengthy illness.  She was born March 4, 1958 in Gainesville.  She lived in Athens the past 10 years moving from Corsicana.  She was a graduate of Athens High School in 1976 and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.  Survivors include her husband, Dennis Trammell of Athens; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Beck of Athens; two sisters, Cynthia Kay Smith and Frances Elayne Buford, both of Athens; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Elliott of Mount Vernon; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe A. Trammell of Athens.

 

Ella Drew Sanders, May 4, 1988

Survices for Mrs. Ella Drew Sanders, 82, Athens, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Foster and Brown Funeral Home in Athens, with the Rev. Bill McNatt officiating.  Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens.  Mrs. Sanders died at her home after a sudden illness.  She was born Jan. 6, 1906, and lived most of her life in Henderson County.  She was a member of Athens Rebekah Lodge No. 23 and Central Baptist Church in Athens.  She was preceded in death by her husband Charles M. Sanders, Sr., in 1966 and two daughters, Gladys Hanks and Jim Bob Sanders.  Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Shirley Sanders, Jr., Athens, and Perry and Francie Sanders, Baytown; three daughters, Ruby Fuller, Thelma Trammell, and Mary Frances Murphree, all of Athens; two brothers, James E. Drew, Corsicana and Robert Drew, LaRue; two sisters, Clara Evans, Athens adn Effie Torres, Arlington; a brother-in-law, E.J. Little, Athens; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers will be Jimmy Allen, Joe A. Trammell, Jr., Anthony Hanks, Kenny Bergmann, Dennis Trammell and Benny Cartlidge.

 

Ruby Hawkins Fuller, January 10, 1990

Services for Ruby L. Fuller, 65, Athens, are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carroll-Lehr Memorial Chapel.  Burial will be in the Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens.  Mrs. Fuller died Wednesday morning in Lakeland Medical Center after a lengthy illness.  She was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Hutchins and was a resident of Athens most of her life.  She was employed with Harvey Industries for 27 years, retiring in 1987.  She was preceded in death by her husband, R.W. Fuller, on June 15, 1980.  Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Shirley Sanders of Athens; two sisters, Thelma Trammell and Mary Frances Murphree of Athens; a foster-son, Benny Ray Cartlidge of Coppell; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Anding and Ethel Trammell, both of Athens; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Earnest Jackson Little, February 23, 1990

Services for Jack Little, 78, Malakoff, were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Athens with the Revs. Lawrence Culbertson and Richard Palmer officiating.  Burial was in the LaRue Cemetery.  Mr. Little died Saturday at his residence after a lengthy illness.  He was born May 17, 1912 to Andrew Jackson and Mirtie Moss Little in Henderson County, where he lived all of his life.  He served in several church committees in the Methodist churches of LaRue, Pickens, Spur, Baxter and Athens.  He was a retired carpenter.  He was preceded in dead by a son, Ernest Glen Little in 1936 and a wife, Addie Jewel Little in 1980.  Survivors include his wife, Floy Little, Malakoff; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Coy and Sandra Little, Poynor; Bobby and Barbara Little, Athens; George and Carol Little, LaRue  and Johnny Little , Baxter; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Addie Jo and Don Curry, LaRue; Glenda and Curtis Hillboldt, Sealy and Marilyn and Olin Boles, Sugarland; one sister, Laura Belle Hallman, Garland; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Wayne Floyd, Stevie Floyd, Bo Floyd, Lloyd Hanks, Jimmy Mitchell, and Dan Middleton.  Honorary pallbearers were Sunday school members of the Christian Workers Class at Athens United Methodist Church.   If desired memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas or Perpetual Care Fund, First United Methodist Church.

 

Christopher Mark Sims, June 25, 1994

Services for Christopher Sims, 21, Athens, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Athens with Rev. James Bond and Rev. Stephen Sims officiating.  Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.  Mr. Sims died Saturday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  He was born Aug. 13, 1972, the son of Larry and Robbie Sims.  He was a graduate of Athens High School and was employed by Wal-Mart, Inc at their Palestine store.   He attended First Baptist Church of Athens.  Survivors include his father and mother, Larry and Robbie Sims, Athens; maternal grandparents, Robert and Wilma Drew, Athens; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Karen Sims, Nashville, Tenn.; and Randy and Tisha Sims, Greenville; sister, Amanda Sims, Athens, four aunts and three uncles.  Pallbearers are Bryan Sims, Wes Carter, Eric Perkins, Lance Holliman, Jim Howell, and Darren Sims.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

 

Clara Arlene Evans, April 16, 1997

Services for Clara Arlene Evans, 79, Athens, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Foster and Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Palmer officiating.  Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park.  Mrs. Evans died at South Place Nursing Home on Wednesday morning.  She was born Oct. 21, 1910 in Henderson County, the daughter of George and Myra E. Copeland Drew.  Mrs. Evans was a housewife and had worked in several department stores.  Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Evans of Athens; brother, Robert Drew of Athens; sister, Effie Torres of Athens and a number of nieces and nephews.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.  

 

Kenneth Brian Brewer, April 7, 1998

Services for Kenneth Brian "Sam" Brewer, 26, of Palestine, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Foster and Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with the Rev. Mike Drinkard officating.  Burial will follow at County Line Cemetery.   Mr. Brewer died Tuesday evening.  He was born Dec. 15, 1971, in Athens, to Wayne and Sue Brewer.  He was a lifelong resident of the Carroll Springs/Union community.  Mr. Brewer graduated from Cayuga High School in 1990 and had been employed for the past eight years for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Coffield Unit.  Mr. Brewer was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, A.J. adn Katherine Brewer, and his maternal grandmother, Gladys Hanks.  He is survived by his parents; daughters, Christy Ashley Brewer and Lauren Sidney Brewer, both of Carrol Springs; sister, Judy Lambright of Carroll Springs; brothers, Bubba Brewer of Cayuga and David Keith Brewer of Chandler and maternal grandfather J.C. Hanks of Purvis, Miss.  Pallbearers will be Jim Bob Jones, Gary Griggs, Kenny Thompson, Anthony Hanks, Gene Naquin and Jeff Chambers.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

Robert Alton Drew, May 22, 2000

Services for Robert Alton Drew, 84, of Athens were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Foster and Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating.  Burial followed at LaRue Cemetery under the direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.  Mr. Drew died May 22, 2000, in Athens.  He was born Nov. 7, 1915, in the Baxter Community to George and Myra Elizabeth Copeland Drew.  He was employed with the City of Athens for 35 years.  He held various positions before retiring as a parks and recreation supervisor.  He was a member of Central Baptish Church.  Mr. Drew was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nelda June Drew, sisters Ella Sanders, Clara Evans and Addie Little, brothers, Orbin Drew and James E. Drew and grandson, Chris Sims.  Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wilma Tiner Drew, of Athens; daughters and sons-in-laws, Robbie and Larry Sims of Athens and Myra and Danny Wilbanks of Athens; sister Effie Torres of Athens; grandchildren Stephen and Karen Sims of Tyler; Randy and Tisha Sims of Waco; Amanda Sims of Athens; Keith and Junko Wilbanks of Japan; Kim and Dale Hyles of Hico and Melissa and Jason Tatum of Abilene, and six great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Denny Sims, Leon Denny, Robert Denny, Bobby Little, George Little and Charles Sanders.  Honorary pallbearers were Floyd Parish, Bill Cogdell, Coy Little, Johnny Little, Tommy Jackson and R.D. Services for Johnny Little, 48, of Brownsboro are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church in Brownsboro with the Rev. Stephen Nipp officiating.  Burial will follow at LaRue Cemetery under the direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.  Mr. Little died Aug. 10, 2000, in Tyler.  He was born Sept. 3, 1951 in Mt. Pleasant to Ernest Jackson and Addie Drew Little.  Mr. Little was a roofer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brownsboro.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ernest Glen Little.  Survivors include his wife, Alice Little of Brownsboro; stepson, Christopher Farrah of Tyler; sister and brother-in-law, Addie Jo and Don Curry of LaRue; brothers and sisters-in-law, Coy Hayden and Sandra Little of Frankston, Bobby Jack and Barbara Little of Athens, and George Wayne and Carol Little of Brownsboro and numerous nieces and nephews.  Pallbearers will be Randy Moore, David Ward, Darrell Miller, Larry Featherston, Charles Robert Baker and Larry Richardson.   Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Little, Billy Glen Featherston, Jerry Willingham, Randall McGee and Mark Featherston.  The family willl receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m.
