D. A. Smith, 64, Dies Following Short Illness
D. A. (Dank) Smith, 64, janitor at the Grammar school building
for the past eight years, died at the Doctors Hospital and
Clinic Thursday afternoon about 2:15 oclock from pneumonia.
Mr. Smith had been ill since January 29th and was moved to the
hospital on February 5th. His condition was such that he showed
no improvement and the end came Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon from the Church of
Christ on South Palestine street, conducted by Rev. Metcalf of
Tyler and assisted by Rev. Poston of the First Christian Church,
Athens.
Pallbearers were J. M. Dewberry, Finis McClure, S. A. Carroll,
Rev. Marvin Johnson, R. Q. Boone and Judge John Ballow.
Mr. Smith was born in Anderson county January 29th, 1874. He was
married to Miss Mary E. Cox December 29th, 1898, who, with five
children survive him. The children are U. L. smith, Mrs. D. A.
Tanner, Mrs. Hayden Fulton, Mrs. G. E. Newbill of Athens and Mrs.
T. C. Mitchell of Houston. Seven grandchildren and one great
grandchild also survive. Two brothers and five sisters also
survive. They are J. H. Smith of Lubbock; Mrs. Jim Welbourne,
Mrs. Jim Hood, Mrs. Alvin Smith of Athens, Mrs. Henry Rogers of
Graham and Mrs. B. B. Ford of Dallas.
Mr. Smith has been janitor at the Grammar school for the past
eight years where he was popular alike with the faculty and the
children. Prior to taking this position, he had spent most of his
life farming.
His death cast a pall of gloom over the grammar school where he
was known as the friend of every child.
The Grammar school planned to close fifteen minutes prior to the
funeral in order to give the students an opportunity to attend
the funeral.
Note: this is Daniel A. Smith who is buried at the Athens City
Cemetery.

Frankston Man Killed By Fly Wheel From Grist Mill Saturday
Funeral services for Clark W. Parrott, 32, Frankston, killed in a
grist mill accident in that city Saturday afternoon, were held at
2:00 Monday from the Frankston Methodist church with Rev. Leon
Unger in charge.
Mr. Parrott was injured at 3:00 oclock Saturday afternoon
when a fly wheel in the Clara McKee grist mill flew from its
mooring, knocking him to the floor. He was removed immediately to
a hospital in Jacksonville, but died at 6:00 oclock
Saturday.
A life long resident of Frankston, he had been employed at the
mill for sometime.
Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Trula and Evelyn both of
Frankston; parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Parrott of Frankston; two
brothers, Loyd and Zoyd Parrott of Frankston; four sisters, Mrs.
Emma Maxwell of San Angelo, Mrs. Glayds Palmer of Jacksonville,
Mrs. Iris Garner of San Angelo, Mrs. Roberta Paris of Buena
Vista, Texas; grandmother, Mrs. Jim Owen of Frankston.

Funeral Rites Are Held For J. H. Morton
Joseph Hendrix Morton, 82, resident of Murchison for the past 23
years and operator of a hotel there, died Saturday night at 10:35
oclock at Murchison.
Funeral services were held at the Murchison Methodist Church
Sunday afternoon at 4 oclock with the Rev. J. E. White of
Tyler officiating. The Athens Funeral Home was in charge of the
services.
Interment was at the Red Hill cemetery, southeast of Murchison.
Pallbearers were M. L. Miller, W. V. Cumbie, T. E. Scott, S. G.
Scott, John Jackson and Lee Riddlesperger.
MR. Morton was born on February 11, 1860, in Alabama. He had been
a member of the Methodist church for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Nannie; one son, R. R. Morton, who is in
South America; one daughter, Mrs. May Scott of Murchison, and
several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Funeral Rites Held Monday For Mrs. Price
Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Price, 65, of Brownsboro, were
held Monday afternoon at 5 oclock at the Brownsboro Baptist
Church.
The services were conducted by the Rev. R. L.Smallwood, with
interment in the Leagueville cemetery.
Mrs. Price, who had been ill for three weeks, died Sunday night
at 9:30 oclock at her home.
Surviving are her husband, W. B. Price; a son, J. L. Thomas of
Brownsboro; two brothers, Albert Reagan, Trees City, La. And
Oscar Reagan, Brownsboro; and a sister, Mrs. Lela Browning,
Brownsboro.

Funeral Service Held Wednesday for B. F. Campbell of Frankston
Funeral services for Benjamin M. Campbell, 75, who died at his
home in Frankston at 12:45 oclock Tuesday afternoon, were
held at 2 oclock Wednesday from the home with interment in
the Frankston cemetery. Rev. Charles Simpson, past of the
Frankston Baptist church, conducted the services.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Beatrice Campbell; four sons, Edgar
and Willie Campbell, both of Raymondville and Walter J. and
Jessie Campbell, both of Frankston; five daughters, Mrs. J. W.
Delaney of Montgomery, Mich., Mrs. J. W. Kendell of Dallas and
Mrs. Douglas Weesner, Mrs. R. T. Erwin and Mrs. T. W. Gouger, all
of Frankston, 33 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a
sister, Mrs. Ann Turner of McKenzie, Tenn. And a brother, John
Campbell of Picard, Ark.
