Janey Nelson
Janey Nelson, 80, a resident of Newberry Springs for 30 years entered the Kingdom of Eternal Peace on Dec. 7, 2003.

She was born Jan. 29, 1923 in Malakoff, Texas, the youngest of five children.

She was one of hte owners of Kel-Lite Flashlight, Inc., an accomplished seamstress, self-taught bookkeeper and an active memberof her husband's Judo school until her retirement in 1983.

During her retirement she was active in her church and community and dedicated her life to her husband of 63 years and her family.

She leaves behind her loving husband and best friend, Norman C. Nelson of Newberry Spring; nine children - daughters, Patricia and her husband Aaron Reeves, Marti Anderson of Newberry Springs, Janey and her husband Mark Radcliff of Fontana, and Caroll Seran of Oregon, sons, Ronald and his wife Vallery of Minnesota, Daniel and his wife Vicky of San Diego, Robert and his wife Valerie of Barstow, Richard and his wife Debbie of Perris, and Mark and his wife Donita of Indiana; foster son Terry Harrell of Barstow; 68 special grandchildren and 47 extra special great-grandchildren; brothers, Dewey (Bill) and his wife Shirley Pruitt and Joe (Bud) and his wife Betty Pruitt of Idaho; sister Imma Gentry of West Sacramento; many nieces and nephews and extended family members, too many to count.

She is preceded to Heaven by daughers, Janette Nunes-Anderson, Katherine Nelson and son Thomas Nelson.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 at the Assembly of God Church on Mt. View and Tonopah in Newberry Springs at 10 a.m.

Long Time Resident of Levelland Dies

Jimmie Lee Garrett Sr., 63, long time resident of Levelland, died at 3:45 p.m. today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lottie Weaver, 5112 38th St. Lubbock.

Garrett had made his home with his daughter since Aug. 31. Prior to that time he had lived in Levelland since 1942. He was born in Houston County.

Funeral arrangements are pending with George Prince Funeral Home here.

Survivors include two sons, C. G. of Lamesa and J. L. of Chickasha, Okla.; a daughter; a brother, Bob, Athens; a sister, Mris Jessie Williams, Athens and several grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Garrett, 76, of Levelland, who died at her home Saturday, will be held at 3 p.m. today in the George Prince Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. J. D. Evins of Littlefield officiating. Burial will be in the Levelland Cemetery.

DENVER CITY (Special) -

Graveside services for John C. Pruitt, 88, of Denver City will be at 2 p.m. today in Denver City Memorial Park with the Rev. M.O. Garner, pastor of the Trinity Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be under the direction of Singleton Funeral Home.

He died at 5:47 a.m. Monday at his residence. Justice of the Peace Esther Holland ruled the death was due to natural causes.

He was born in Fort Worth. He had worked as a rodeo clown, was a veteran of World War 1 and was a member of the Odd Fellows. He married Meekie Olivia Burnett on July 13, 1964, in Lovington, N.M.

Survivors include his wife; a step daughter, Rosa Lee Jones of Highlands; a stepson, Emmett Burnett of Denver City; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Laura Mitchell


Mrs. Laura Mitchell, 79, of (street number unreadable) Sand Lane , died Sunday night in a hospital here after a four weeek illness. She was a native of Mississippi and a Fort Worth resident since 1917. she was a member of John T. White Baptist Church. Survivors are her husband, Nat Mitchell; a daughter; Mrs. Lucy Burnett of Fort Worth; a sister, Mrs. Ema Rogers of Fort Worth; four brothers, John Pruett, G. W. Pruett and Fred Hurd of Fort Worth and Joe Pruett of California; a grandson and five great-grandchildren. Moore Funeral Home at Arlington will announce arrangements.
