From the Athens Daily Review, Athens, Henderson County, Texas, Thursday, May 12, 1938, p. 1: JOHN T. SANDERS DIES; BURIAL TO BE ON FRIDAY John T. Sanders, 76, resident of the Murchison community for the past sixty-one years, died sometime Wednesday night. the well known and highly respected citizen of Murchison was found dead in his bed at 6:00 o'clock Thursday morning. Deceased was the father of Lee Sanders of Athens and a brother of A. W. Sanders, Athens merchant. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church of Murchison. Rev. T. H. Irwin of Tyler and Rev. D. R. Carlidge of Athens, both close friends of the deceased, will be asked to conduct the services. Interment will be in the Red Hill cemetery. Pall bearers named were: Eugene Webb, Delmas Sanders, Gurley Sanders, Millard Sanders, [rest of line illegible]. Honorary pall bearers will be: Oran Scott, Ollie Wells, B. K. Barnes, Walter Lewis, Percy Lewis, Clark Turner, Early Taylor, Will Dyer, John Dyer, Clyde Simmons and Joe Harper. John Taylor Sanders was born July 30, 1872, near Stephenville in Erath county, but was brought to Henderson county in 1876 by his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jess Sanders who are buried in the Red Hill cemetery. Mrs. John Sanders, the former Miss Lula Skipper, died at Murchison in 1901 and lies buried in the Red Hill cemetery. Mr. Sanders is survived by two sons, Lee Sanders of Athens and Carl Sanders of Corsicana and one daughter, Mrs. Modest Taylor of Murchison. Two brothers, A. W. Sanders, Athens, and J. J. Sanders, Murchison and one sister, Mrs. Frank Carroll, Athens. furnished by Gary Sanders I copied this from the Athens Review dated 15 Sep 1932. He was buried in Tidmore Cemetery which is in Van Zandt Co. John S. Edwards, 66, prominent farmer of the Shady Grove community where he had lived for the past thirty years, died suddenly shortly before midnight Sunday night. Members of the family found him dead in bed at about 11 o'clock when they went to the bedside after hearing him gasp for breath. Mr. Edwards, suffering from a large carbunkle on his back, had been in ill health, but had been active about his farm, feeding some livestock on his farm shortly before dark Sunday evening. The cause of his death had not been determined this morning. Although born in Louisiana, Mr. Edwards came to Texas at the age of ten and had spent the past 56 years farming in Navarro, Van Zandt and Henderson counties, living in the Shady Grove community in this county for the past thirty years. Funeral services were held at the Tidmore cemetery this afternoon. The deceased is survived by his wife and ten children. The children include six daughters and four sons. They are: R. F. Edwards, Miss Dessie Edwards, Mrs. Jesse Dyer, Mrs. Maude Saylors, Mrs. Cora Voiles, E. B. Edwards, Mre. Delia Jones, H. H. Edwards, Mrs. Dannie Shaver, All of whom live in and near Murchison and G.
