Funeral Services Held Friday For
William Boyd, 42
Funeral services for William H. Boyd, 42, of the Rome community
who was killed instantly January 5 when struck by some falling
oil field equipment at Hawkins, Texas will be held Friday morning
at 10 a.m.
The Rev. W. T. Fugate of Wills Point and the Rev. P. E. Wisinger
of Elkhart officiated at the funeral, which will be held at the
Rome Baptist Church. Interment was in the Rome cemetery.
Born and reared in Henderson county, Mr. Boyd had been a farmer
and was an ordained Baptist minister.
Survivors, are his wife; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Boyd of
Athens; four sons, William, Nolan, Hodge and Alvin; three
daughters, Willie Gene, Wilma Dean, Nona Fay, two brothers,
Millard Boyd of Athens and Bernice Boyd of El Paso and three
sisters, Mrs. Bessie James, Fort Worth; Mrs. Ressie Keeton and
Mrs. Essie Holman both of Athens.

Viola Hester Boyd
Services for Viola Hester Boyd, 93 of Lufkin and formerly of
Athens, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Foster and Brown
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Irvin Mills officiating. Burial
will follow at the Rome Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd died, Thursday, July 2,1999 in Lufkin.
She was born Jan 29,1905 in Athens to J. T. and Rose Baker
Hester.
Mrs. Boyd was a Baptist by faith and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.M. Boyd,
and two sisters Ruby Tinkle and Alva Carrigan.
She is survived by one sister, Nellie Fuller of Lufkin, and
numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at
the funeral home Saturday from 6-8 p.m.

Savanna Catherine Smith Trammell
Services for Mrs. Savanna Catherine Smith Trammell, 94 of Athens
are scheduled for 10a.m. Saturday at the Rome Cemetery with the
Rev. Irvin Mills officiating. Burial will be under the direction
of Foster and Brown Funeral Home.
Mrs. Trammell died March 16,1999 in Athens.
She was born April 7, 1904, in Ovilla to Will Foriest and Hudie
Smith. Mrs. Trammell was preceded in death by her husband, Alton
Robert Trammell Sr. in 1963; a son, Alton Robert Trammell Jr. in
1997; and infant son; a brother Barney Smith and a sister, Zethel
O'Kelly. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and
Sally Trammell of Athens; five grandchildren, Gail Tucker of
Midvale, Utah, Neil Trammell of Paris, Paul Trammell of
california, Doug Trammell of Athens, David Trammell of Arlington
and six great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will include Doug Trammell, David Trammell,
Neil Trammell Butch Tucker, Jackie Yow, Travis Yow and Neil Ward.
The family will receive friends between 6-8p.m. Friday at the
funeral home.

Aged Citizen Of Rome Community Buried Sunday Afternoon.
Funeral services for S. M. Moody, 87 long time citizen of the
Rome community, were held Sunday afternoon with burial at the
Rome cemetery. Services were conducted by
Dr. L.D. Rose. Deceased had been ill for sometime.
Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. A.P. Maddox
and a son, Guy Moody of Taylor, Texas.
Born in Alabama, Mr. Moody came to Texas early in life and had
been a citizen of the Rome community for many years.
*NOTE. S. M. Moody was Samuel Moody who married Martha
"Mattie" Boyd after Thomas Fuller died. After a long
period of looking for Mr. Moody's grave and with the help of the
plot map from Rome cemetery I found out that Mr. Moody is buried
next to my grandpa John Fuller. All of these years his grave has
been unmarked. I have marked his grave with a homemade marker. Laura Gregory Roberts
Robert Alton Drew
Services for Robert Alton Drew, 84, of Athens were held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Foster and Brown Chapel with the Rev. Mike Gibbs
officiating.
Burial followed at LaRue Cemetery under the direction of Foster
and Brown Funeral Home.
Mr. Drew died May 22, 2000, in Athens.
He was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Baxter Community to George and Myra
Elizabeth Copeland Drew.
He was employed with the City of Athens for 35 years. He held
various positions before retiring as a parks and recreation
supervisor. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Mr. Drew was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melda
June Drew; sisters, Ella Sanders, Clara Evans and Addie Little;
brothers, Orbin Drew and James E. Drew; and grandson, Chris Sims.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wilma Tiner Drew, of
Athens; daughters and sons-in-law, Robbie and Larry Sims of
Athens and Myra and Danny Wilbanks of Athens; sister, Effie
Torres of Athens; grandchildren, Stephen and Karen Sims of Tyler,
Randy and Tisha Sims of Waco, Amanda Sims of Athens, Keith and
Junko Wilbanks of Japan, Kim and Dale Hyles of Hico and Melissa
and Jason Tatum of Abilene; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Denny Sims, Leon Denny, Robert Denny, Bobby
Little, George Little and Charles Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers were Floyd Parish, Bill Cogdell, Coy Little,
Johnny Little, Tommy Jackson and R.D. Rhodes.

Nubel Shelton Cannon
Services for Nubel Shelton Cannon, 88, of Athens are scheduled
for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Eastern Hills Church of Christ with Dr.
Glenn Cannon and Michael St. Claire officiating.
Burial will follow at Becks Chapel Cemetery under the direction
of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Cannon died Jan. 12, 2000, in Bedford.
She was born July 19, 1911, in Henderson County to Sam Houston
and Mittie Anding Shelton.
Mrs. Cannon lived in Athens most of her life and was a member of
Eastern Hills Church of Christ. She taught many years for Athens
Independent School District.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kermitt
Cannon, in 1989; and sister, Mabel Benton.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Glenn
Wesley and Carol Ann Cannon of Abilene; daughter and son-in-law,
Judy Lynn and Michael St. Claire of Hurst; sister, Tennie Mae
Ballow of Athens; seven grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Kent Cannon, Charles Cannon, Dr. Neal
Coates, Douglas Bryan, Albert Buchannan and Chad St. Claire.
Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home

Nellie 'Bede' Fuller
Graveside services for Nellie "Bede" Fuller, 87, of
Pollok were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Edon Cemetery in
Nacogdoches County with John Horner officiating. Arrangements
were under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home of Lufkin.
Mrs. Fuller died Aug. 25, 2001, in Pollok.
She was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Henderson County to John Thomas
and Rose Baker Hester.
Perviously of Douglas, Mrs. Fuller lived in Pollok for the past
19 years. She was a retired self-employed beautician and a member
of Appleby Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Henry
"Slick" Fuller
Survivors include her nieces and their spouses, Woodie and
Gilbert Rice of Pollok, Ann and Don Truehardt of Baytown, Jo and
Darryl Douglas of Athens and Linda Jost of Houston; nephews and
spouse, Paul and Carolyn Tinkle of Pollok and Bobby Fuller of
Splendora; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great
nieces and great-great nephews.

Mary "Ted" Pool
Funeral services for Mary Ted Pool, 85 of Athens are scheduled
for 2p.m. at Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.
Robert Tucker officiating. Burial will be at Athens City
Cemetery.
Mrs. Pool was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Garland Clebborn Pool Sr., on March 18, 1992; two brothers, Guy
Cox and George Cox; sisters, Alpha Smith, Orris Madsen and her
twin sister, Pat Larkin.
She is survived by one daughter, Dolores Hopson of Athens; one
son and daughter in-in-law, Garland and Patsy Pool of Athens; six
grandchildren, Steven Hopson of Sanger, Todd Hopson of Athens,
Wade Hopson of Alavrado; Phebron Stenovith of Athens, Trayona
Campbell of Fort Worth and Clay Pool of Athens; 11
great-grandchildren; one sister Hazel Born of Los Angeles, Ca.;
and one brother Bruce Cox of Caney City.
Pallbearers will be Steven Hopson, Wade Hopson, Todd Hopson, Clay
Pool, Tommy Campbell and Keith Stenovitch.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday
evening from 5-7p.m.
Donations may be made to the Trinity Valley Jr College Memorial
Scholarship Fund in Memory of Mary Pool's name.

Evelyn Tiner
Graveside services for Evelyn Tiner, 73, of Balch Springs and
formerly of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Shelby
Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Services
are under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Tiner died March 11, 2000, in Balch Springs.
She was born Sept. 8, 1926, in Athens to Luther and Myra
Willingham Cox.
Mrs. Tiner resided in Balch Springs for 24 years. She was a
member of First Christian Church in Athens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Tiner, on
Oct. 3, 1994; and her parents.
Mrs. Tiner is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and
Ron Haynes of Atlanta, Ga., and Gay and Don Burrows of McKinney;
son, Paul Tiner of Balch Springs; sister, Jerry Wells of Dallas;
five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece; and one
nephew.
Pallbearers will include Kyle Lucas, Brad Burrows, Ron Haynes
Jr., Ryan Haynes and Christy Lamans.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday at the funeral

Etharene Boyd
Services for Etharene Boyd, 84, of Athens were held at 1 p.m.
Thursday at Foster & Brown Chapel in Athens with the Rev.
David Mahon officiating.
Burial followed at Rome Cemetery under the direction of Foster
& Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mrs. Boyd died July 9, 2002, in Athens.
She was born March 20, 1918, in LaRue to Jerry G. and Ella Cobb.
Mrs. Boyd was a homemaker and a member of Eastern Hills Church of
Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Edwin D.
"Dugan" Boyd Sr.; four brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edwin D. Jr. and
Judy Boyd of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and O.W.
Farmer of Athens; sister, Eva J. Evans of Salado; six
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Pallbearers were Jeff Barnes, David Boyd, David Evans, J. Taylor,

Derwin Lawson Fuller
Funeral services for Derwin Fuller of Center, Texas will be held
Tuesday Sept 10,1997 at 10:00am at Mangum Chapel in Center,
Texas. Graveside services following the Rome Cemetery in Athens,
Texas with the Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating.
Mr. Fuller passed away Sept 6,1997 at the home of his twin sister
Sherian in Houston, Texas after a short battle with cancer. Mr.
Fuller passed away with his family by his side.
Mr. Fuller was born October 9,1939 in Athens, Texas to John and
Sarah Fuller. His parents pre-deceased him. Mr. Fuller is
survived by his wife Sylvia of Center, 2 sisters; his twin sister
Sherian Dayton of Houston and Mary John Smith of Center, one
brother Raymond Jack Fuller of Center, 2 daughters Jill Anderson
of Troup and Mollie Whitaker of Nashville, Tn, 2 step-daughters;
Karen Evans and Kathy Smith both of Center, 2 sons;
David Fuller of Troup, Eugene Fuller of Nashville, Tn., 1
step-son Benjamin Provose of Ga., 11 grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Hospice of the Medical

Services for Dave Trammell, 86, of Athens are scheduled for 2
p.m. Wednesday at Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the
Revs. Richard Palmer and Linda O'Neal officiating.
Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Athens under the
direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens.
Mr. Trammell died Nov. 26, 2001, in Athens.
He was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Rome to Berl and Mary Ione Pierce.
Mr. Trammell graduated from Cross Roads High School and served in
the U.S. National Guard. He worked for Ling Temco Vaught. He
married Jewell Matthews on Feb. 4, 1939
Survivors include his children and spouses, David and Earline
Trammell of Grand Prairie, Shirley and Philip Hart of Grand
Prairie and Gwen and Charlie McMath of Corpus Christi;
grandchildren and spouses, Greg and Tami Lynn Trammell of
Lafayette, La., Chris and Melody Hart of Arlington, Stacy and
Chris Gisburne of Shreveport, La., Jenna and Ray Marx of
Arlington, Vannessa McMath of Austin, Amber and Neil Surguy of
Houston and Robin McMath of Corpus Christi; four great-grandsons;
and three great-granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be David Trammell, Greg Trammell, Chris Hart,
Chris Gisburne, Ray Marx and Neil Surguy.
Family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral

Dalton R. 'Buddy' Trammell
Dalton R. "Buddy" Trammell of Athens was on his way
back from Alaska Saturday, July 21, 2001, when the Lord called
him home.
He had been retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Tyler
since 1989. Buddy was born March 15, 1934, in the Willow Springs
community near Cross Roads, to Burl Cook and Mary Ione Pierce
Trammell. He had six brothers and sisters. His father and mother,
along with Olive Bristow of Athens and J.B. Trammell of Tyler,
preceded him in going to be with the Lord.
He has four surviving brothers and one sister, Elmo Trammell of
Charlotte, N.C.; Dave Trammell of Athens; Woodrow Trammell of
Athens; B.C. Trammell of Tyler; and his sister, Pat Boyd of
Athens.
He was also survived by his wife of 47 years, Julia Annette
Wilson Trammell of Athens; a daughter, Lisa, and her husband,
Michael L. Turner of Athens; and their children, Christina
Bumbard of Denton, Heather and husband, Samuel Trujillo of
Seattle, Wash., Keith Turner of Marlow, Okla., John Baber of
Wichita Falls. His son, Glenn Trammell and wife, Pamela, live in
Mineral Wells, and their children, Adam Trammell and his wife,
Amy, live in Ardmore, Ala., Leslie Bullington is also of Ardmore,
Ala., Michelle Hill resides in Reno, Nev., and Autumn Hill is of
Mineral Wells. His daughter, Mary Ann Trammell resides in Tyler.
Buddy also had seven great-grandchildren, Ashleigh and Victoria
Trujillo, Chloe Bumbard, Christian Trujillo, Alexis Trammell,
Wylie Trammell and Lorren Bullington.
Buddy was active in his church and the Labor of Love and the East
Texas Emmaus Community. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with
Annette and spending time with his family. He not only displayed
the slogan "Real Men Love Jesus" on his truck, he lived
it.
Visitation for friends and family will be held 6-8 p.m. today at
Foster & Brown Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday at First United
Methodist Church on Lovers Lane in Athens. The services will be
officiated by the Rev. Lynn Parker.
Interment will be at Rome Cemetery near the Shady Oaks community.
Pallbearers will be Adam Trammell, John Baber, Keith Turner,
