Wife Of Athens Police Chief Dies Last Wednesday
----------
Mrs. J. I. Wofford, 54, wife of
Chief of Police of Athens, and long time resident of that
city died suddenly at the family home in Athens at 6:30
o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Wofford had been in bad health for some time, but
was able to be up and about the house and prepared dinner
at the noon hour Wednesday. When her husband returned
home about 5 o'clock he found her lying on the floor
unconscious. She had suffered a sinking spell from high
blood pressure and evidently had been in a state of
unconsciousness for some time. The family physician was
hurriedly summoned, but she passed away in a shout time.
Funeral services were held from the family home at 4
o'clock Thursday afternoon, with the Rev. M. L. Fuller
officiating. Interment immediately followed in the Athens
city cemetery.
