Mrs. Mary Dunton Passes Away At 93 Saturday Morning
----------
Mrs. Mary Dunton, age 93 years, passed to her reward at
10:15 A.M. Sat., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W.
Urrey, with whom she had made her home for the past 22
years. Her death followed a stroke of paralysis which she
suffered early Fri. morning, and which effected the
entire left
side of her body. Anxious loved ones and friends watched
over her throughout the day Fri. and Fri. night and
everything
that human hands could do was done for this kindly old
soul,
but to no avail. The Angel of death appeared Sat. morning
and her spirit was carried back to the Father who gave
it.
Funeral services were held from the Urrey home on Mitcham
Street at 1:30 o'clock Sun. afternoon conducted by Rev.
E.
L. Edgar, pastor of the Methodist Church and assisted by
Rev. Wallace Clark, Baptist Pastor. Interment took place
immediately following in the Malakoff Cemetery. Funeral
arrangements were in charge of J. A. Ballard, funeral
directors.
Mrs. Dunton was born in Belfast, Ireland on May 5, 1838,
and died Feb. 6, 1932, at the advanced age of 93 years 9
months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to W. H.
Dunton in the year 1861 and to this union 6 children were
born, all of which survive, and 5 of whom were with her
when
the end came. Surviving are: W. H. Dunton, Wanette,
Oklahoma; Steve Dunton, Kerens; Mrs. Cornelia Mankin,
Kerens; Mrs. Lila Baxter, Houston; and Mrs. C. C. Lucas
and
Mrs. Geo. W. Urrey of this city, one sister, Mrs. Rosa
O'Donnell, Nashville Tenn.
Mrs. Dunton united with the Methodist Church in early
life
and has lived a consistent christian life throughout her
long
span of years. Although she is gone, her memory will be
long cherished, not only in her own household, but by
everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing this dear
good lady.
Our Oldest
Citizen Passes
The Angel of Death visited the Lignite City on Saturday
morning and bore
away the spirit of another of our aged
citizens, that of Mrs. Mary Dunton, who passed away at
the
home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Urrey. Mrs. Dunton, at
the age of 93, was by several years the oldest person in
Malakoff. She was a staunch christian lady and was ever
our friend. To have known Mrs. Dunton was a pleasure with
in itself, and to have known her without loving her was
an
impossibility. Our sympathy, along with that of our
entire
citizenship goes out to the children that are left
behind. And,
to them we would say that "if God has plucked the
brightest
blossom from your home it is for a purpose none of us
dare
divine. He alone can pour balm upon your crushed heart.
The holy joy is yours of knowing that Angel eyes now
watch
for your coming, and that your beautiful mother will
receive
you when life's dark day is done. If the tenderness of
much
loving sympathy could soothe your, kind friends, learn
that
you have it from this column and your many friends and
neighbors of our city.
