J. S. Tanner of California Dies
Rites In Athens

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Hassell and
Foster Funeral Home in Athens for J. S. Tanner,
64, who died Wednesday at
Turlock, California, after an illness of several months.
Burial was in the Shelby Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Marvin Layman
conducted the services.
Pallbearers were Luther Cox, Elbert Cox,
John Corley, Ben Bruce Corley,
Douglas Tanner and Shelby Bell.
Mr. Tanner was born in Jackson County, Alabama,
and came to Athens when he was a small boy. He lived here until
he moved to Rochester 30 years ago.
He had lived at Turlock for 20 years.
Mr. Tanner, a cattleman, was a member of the
Church of God and the Masonic Lodge.Survivors are his wife, Mrs.
Era Tanner; four sons, Archie Tanner,
Calvin Tanner and Joyce Tanner
of Turlock, and Cecil Tanner of Santa Cruz,
Calif; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Bristow of
Sacramento, California;
one brother, Wallace Tanner of Athens; four
sisters, Mrs. Kate Bell of Rochester, and Mrs.
Arch Perdue, Mrs. Nannie Corley
and Mrs. Hollie Pinkerton
of Athens, and twelve grandchildren.
