John A. Evans Dies Suddenly At Home Here

Funeral services for J. A. Evan, 71, who died suddenly from a stroke Fri. morning at 10 o'clock, were held Sat. afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Edom Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe B. Stuart officiating. Mr. Evans had been in ill health for some time, having suffered a stroke two years ago.

Pallbearers were his nephews.

The Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was a native Texan, born May 24, 1873, and had resided in Athens for the past seven years.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Malissa Evans; three sons, Jesse Evans of Corsicana, Sgt. Alford Evans, U. S. Army, and SM 2/c B. D. Evans, U. S. Navy; six daughters, Mrs. H. J. Patterson of Edom, Mrs. Grace Grantom of Barry, Mrs. Marie Kyle of Seminole, Okla., and Mrs. Porter Lee, Mrs. Earlie Saylors and Miss Gladys Evans, all of Athens, and two brothers and one sister.

Those who attended the services from out of town were M/M Ab Bristow of Rule, M/M Remer Evans and M/M Lawrence Evans of Texas City, Mrs. Tom Tyler of Jacksonville, M/M Joe Farmer of Edom, Pete Farmer of Brownsboro, Mrs. Vic, Johnson, Mrs. Bill Braughton, Mrs. Roy Rudd, Mrs. Frank Breckenridge, Miss Mozelle Patterson, all of Tyler.
