Browning Rites Here On Sunday

Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church for Earl L. Browning, 52 who died at his home here Friday at 12:40 p.m. after a lengthy illness.
The Rev. Bill Slayton, the Rev. Rev. T. L. Slimp and the Rev. Alton Dodd conducted the services and burial was in the Athens City Cemetery. The Hassell and Foster Funeral
Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Browning was born at Kilgore and moved to Athens in 1945. He was manager of Brookshire Bros. grocery for three years and afterward was assistant chief of police,
chief of police, and street superintendent for the city of Athens, and a deputy sheriff of Henderson County. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church.
He was married to the former Miss Lucille Boy of Kaufman Aug., 10, 1935.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Bobby Browning of Fort Worth; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hill and Mrs. Alma Friendly of Kaufman and Mrs. Sara Kilpatrick of Overton, and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Bledsoe, Ira Kinsey, Willie Cecil, B. L. Staples, Don Dickerson and Titus Chaney.
Note: Cemetery Records of Henderson County, Texas Book 1 For The AGO Shows Earl Leslie Browning born June 9, 1911 died Mar 13 1964. Death record shows the same. Cemetery Book Volume 11 in 1977 shows born May 7 1942 died June 2 1960 this is incorrect. (LGR)
