Athens People Killed In Automobile Crash
----------
Mrs. Lou Beavers of Athens
and her son Wesley of Tyler were instantly killed in an untimely
auto crash while enroute to Garland last Thursday morning to
attend the funeral of another son, O. L. Beavers, who was killed
at West, Texas on Wednesday of the same week by a high voltage
electric light wire.
Mr. J. R. Gibson, manager of the Texas Power & Light Company
in this district was driving the car in which they were riding at
the time of the accident Mr. Gibson, however, with the exception
of minor bruises escaped unhurt. The party was nearing Dallas on
the Buckner Boulevard when an auto driven by E. J. Majure of
Jacksonville crashed into them at a street intersection. The
latter received several broken ribs and other minor injuries and
was taken to the Baylor Hospital for treatment.
The authorities in Dallas hold Mr. Gibson wholly blameless for
the wreck, but charges have been filed against Majure for driving
while intoxicated. A Jacksonville negro who was in the car with
Majure said that he (Majure) had been drinking during the trip to
Dallas and that he was driving about 40 or 50 miles per hour at
the time the fatal accident occurred.
Funeral services for Mrs. Beavers and her two sons were held from
the First Baptist Church at Athens Friday afternoon with the
Pastor Rev. M. L. Fuller officiating. Interment took place at the
Athens cemetery.
