Fall In Culvert Results In Death
Andy E. Boyd, 65

A.E. (Andy) BOYD, of the Cross Roads section, died at 6:10 Sunday evening at the
Wolfe-Duphorne hospital in Athens where he was removed following a fall into a deep
culvert just west of the underpass on West Corsicana street.

The accident occurred about 7:30 Saturday night while Mr. BOYD and Babe HOLMAN
of Lamesa, Texas were walking back to town. HOLMAN was a visitor in the BOYD home.
Mr. BOYD and Mr. HOLMAN had accompanied one of Mr. BOYD'S renters to the Y in West
Athens in a wagon. He decided to come back to town when a sudden norther blew up.
He was walking with his head down just off the highway and it is presumed he stumbled
over the concrete curbing of the culvert and fell head first some fifteen feet downward.
He received a fractured skull and a broken neck. He was removed to the Wolfe-Duphorne
hospital in a Carroll-Lehr ambulance.

Relatives were summoned to his bedside but his condition grew gradually worse
and the end came Sunday evening.The body was removed to the Athens Funeral
Home where it was prepared for burial.

Funeral services were held at Corinth Church at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon with
Dr. L.D. ROSE in charge of services., assisted by Rev. G.E. RUSHING of Elkhart.
Burial was at the Rome cemetery in charge of the Athens Funeral Home.

Mr. BOYD was born February 18, 1874, in Mississippi, but had been a resident of
Texas the greater part of his life. He had lived many years in the Cross Roads
section of this county.

Mr. BOYD is survived by twelve children as follows; Elbert E. BOYD of Palestine,
Mrs. Bertha HOLLINGSWORTH of Brandon, Mrs. Sallie GIBSON of Emhouse,
Mrs. Ora McMILLAN of Houston, Elton BOYD of Lamesa, Joe BOYD of Houston,
Mrs. Ollie McGEE of Athens, Clarence R. BOYD, Mrs. Mary DOUGLAS,
Homer., J. R. and Edwin D. BOYD, all of this county. His wife preceded him in death
18 years ago. Besides the children he is survived by three brothers,
John D., Charles R., and Luther R. BOYD, all of this county and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie
MOODY and Mrs. Janie GARRETT. Ten grandchildren also survive.


Elton BOYD of Lamese Injured Enroute To Attend Father's Funeral

Elton BOYD and his wife of Lamesa were bruised considerably and his uncle,
Bob CHIPLEY, also of Lamesa, was seriously injured in a car wreck at
Fort Worth Sunday morning while enroute here to attend the funeral of Mr.
BOYD'S father, A.E. BOYD, who died following an accident here Saturday night.
Mr. BOYD and his wife came to Athens by bus after receiving treatment.
Mr. CHIPLEY was knocked unconscious and remains in a hospital in Fort Worth.
The car struck a post as they wee coming around a curve, completely wrecking the car.

Dies Suddenly In Dental Office At Noon

Mrs. Luther BOYD, 29, died suddenly shortly after 1:00 o'clock Wednesday in the office
of Dr. J.H. Burtis in the Spencer building. Mrs. BOYD was sitting in the dental chair
preparatory to having a tooth extracted. She had asked for a drink of water and after
swallowing it she swooned over in the chair. Thinking she had only fainted, Dr. BURTIS
hurriedly called Dr. N.D. GEDDIE from an adjoining office and an examination revealed
that she was dead. Mrs. BOYD had only a few minutes prior to that time
stopped in the office to ask Dr. GEDDIE his advice about having the tooth extracted.
He pronounced her death due to a blood clot on the brain. Justice B.C. HALL held an
inquest and pronounced death due to natural causes.

Deceased is survived by her husband and two children. One child, Enoch Harris,
8 is the child of her first husband. The second child is only three months of age.
Mrs. BOYD made her home with her sister, Mrs. Chester HARRIS, who resides at
the Iron Mountain on the Tyler highway just east of town. Besides Mrs. HARRIS
she is survived by one other sister, Mrs. John Fuller of Poyner.

Carroll-Lehr Undertaking Company took the body in charge. Funeral arrangements
had not been made at press time but it was stated that burial
would be at the city cemetery.

Mrs. BOYD was born Johnnie Estelle MILLER Born Mar 31,1903 in Elkhart,
Anderson County Texas. Family states that she is buried in the Athens City cemetery
as you go into the cemetery on the right side of the road.
Grave is UNMARKED and no living relative knows where the grave is located.
Johnnie was my great-aunt.
