Holloway Funerals Held on Sunday at 2:30
Funeral services for Horace Holloway, 48, native of Henderson
county, who died at 2:00 oclock Friday afternoon at Marlin
were held from the First Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon at
2:30 with Rev. M. L. Fuller, Pastor, conducting the service.
Pallbearers were I. P. LaRue, ???? Hubbard, E. B. LaRue, W. ?
Stirman, Horace Barron and Homer ?????. Honorary pallbearers were
members of Koon Kreek Klub.
Mr. Holloway, former county peace officer and one time keeper of
Koon Kreek Klub, had been ill for the past year. Four weeks ago,
he was removed to the hospital in Marlin and for a time he
appeared to be improving. Tuesday he became unconscious, Mrs.
Holloway and children had been with him almost constantly. Mrs.
Holloway and her daughter returned to Athens Friday. They had
hardly arrived here until news of his death came. John Lehr of
the Carroll-Lehr Undertaking Company went to Marlin to bring the
body back to Athens.
The deceased was born and reared and had spent his entire life as
a resident of this county. He was born in the Pine Grove
community near Athens.
Mr. Holloway is survived by his wife, and five children, one
daughter, Mrs. Norman Petzing, Dallas, four sons, Herman and Bill
Holloway, Athens; Joe Holloway, Cayuga, and Raymond Holloway,
Osborne, Kansas.
One sister, Mrs. Verna Eagle, Fort Worth, and two brothers, Fred
Holloway and Luke Holloway, Fort Worth and a half brother,
Carroll Morrow of Athens also survives.
Deceased was born December 29, 1888. He was married to Miss Lena
Nelson in 1904.

Death Claims Mrs. G. J. Eads, Lifetime Resident of County
Mrs. G. J. Eads, 81, widow of the late General Eads, for many
years a prominent farmer of Henderson county, died at her home on
the old Tyler highway, just out of the city, at 4:00 oclock
Thursday morning. Mrs. Eads had been ill only for a few days
although she had been in feeble health for some time.
Funeral services were held from the home at 10:00 oclock
Friday morning by Rev. T. H. Irwin, of Tyler, assisted by Rev. M.
L. Fuller. Burial will follow at the city cemetery.
Pallbearers were great grandsons of the deceased, who are: Louis
Perry, R. B. Perry, Jr., Willie Joe Perry, Aubrey Perry, Perry
Sanders, Miliford Thomas and Gilbert Perry.
Mrs. Eads was among the older residents of the county. She was
born in Henderson county January 2nd, 1856, directly after her
parents came here from Tennessee. They settled north of
Murchison. She was a member of the Murchison Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. R. B. Perry, one sister, Mrs. J.
W. Splawn of Dallas; three grandchildren and several great
grandchildren. Mrs. Eads was a sister of the late J. T. LaRue.
Living with Mrs. Eads were her granddaughter, Mrs. Collie Perry
and her husband.

Mabank Player Killed in Game at Montabla
Tragedy intercepted a life in the Mabank High school football
squad Friday afternoon at Mt. Alba, claiming Herman Robertson and
casting a pall of sorrow over that entire section.
Young Robertson, a 17 year old senior, was captain of the Mabank
eleven, being a second year man from Canton. Mabank, playing
football this season for the first time in several years,
received Robertson as a transfer early in the year.
According to Coach H. E. Niebuhr of Mabank, the injury, which
resulted in a broken neck, came about as Robertson was tackled.
Niebuhr, in a telephone conversation with the Review this morning
said:
the play which claimed Robertsons life was as clean
as any could have been. He fell to the ground with great force
following the tackle, his neck broken. He lived about an hour but
never regained consciousness.
According to the coach, the accident occurred in about the last
minute of play.
Funeral service s were held 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Burial was
given as Elm Grove cemetery.

Malakoff Man, County Native, Dies Suddenly
Jodie McClure, 59, lifelong resident of the Malakoff community,
died suddenly at his home there Thursday evening at 8 oclock
after being stricken with gastritis. Dr. Fowler was summoned to
the McClure home shortly after he was stricken. While the
physician was enroute back to a drug store to get needed medicine
McClure succumbed, the Review was informed.
Funeral arrangements were held up pending word from McClures
only daughter who lives in Virginia.
Deceased is survived by his wife, one daughter, two brothers,
Toby McClure and Roland McClure, both of the Payne Springs
community.

R. F. Roberson, County Pioneer, Buried Sunday
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Cottonwood, east
of Eustace for Robert E. Roberson, 90, a resident of Henderson
county for nearly seventy years. Mr. Roberson died Saturday night
at 11 oclock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert H.
Davis in the Cottonwood community. He had lived on this same farm
for the past sixty-six years. His death was attributed to
pneumonia which followed a brief illness with influenza.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C. D. Poston of
Athens, Rev. J. W. Williford of Eustace and Rev. Sutton,
Cottonwood minister.
Mr. Roberson is survived by 8 children, seven daughters and one
son, as follows; Mrs. John Garrett, Mrs. Jim Garrett and Mrs.
George Dennis, all of Athens; Mrs. J. H. Morton, Mrs. R. H. Davis
and Mrs. E. H. Scarborough, all of the Cottonwood community near
Eustace, Mrs. Ed Cook of ODonnell, Texas; and Walter
Roberson also of the Cottonwood community. Mrs. Roberson and
three children preceded him in death.
Deceased was born in Alabama on June 27th, 1847, where he and
Miss Mary Wilmon were married. They removed to Henderson county
in December 1869 settling in the Eustace-Cottonwood area where
Mr. Roberson and his wife spent the remainder of their lives. Her
death occurred in 1910.
He had been a lifelong member of the Baptist church.

Former Athenian Dies Thursday A. M.
The death of Clarence Walker, of Nacogdoches, formerly of Athens,
was announced in Athens last Thursday morning.
It was reported that the former Athenian died at about 10:30 on
Thursday morning. He is survived by his mother and a sister, Mrs.
Chamley Fitzgerald.
Funeral services were conducted in Nacogdoches Friday, an
announcement said.

Funeral Services for Athens Native Held at Bardwell
Funeral service s for L. S. Pritchett, 57, who passed away
Thursday morning at the Ennis Municipal Hospital, following an
illness of four weeks of typhoid fever, were held at 3 oclock
Friday afternoon at the Bardwell Baptist Church with the Rev. E.
O. Stewart, pastor of the Missionary Baptist Church of Corsicana,
officiating.
Interment was made in the Bristol cemetery. Pallbearers were J.
W. Bartlett, L. H. Prine, Jack Wood, W. M. Fortson, B. C. Pool,
and H. S. Boren.
Mr. Pritchett, a native of Athens, Texas, had lived in Bristol
for many years before moving to Bardwell.

Truck-Train Crash Victim Buried at Cottonwood Cemetery
Funeral services for Lloyd Edward Crabtree, 28, who died near
Greggton Wednesday morning when his truck was struck by a troop
train, was held at four oclock Thursday afternoon at the
Cottonwood cemetery wit the Rever and McShann of the community in
charge of the services.
The deceased who was reported to have been working on a
government power project at the time of his death, is survived by
his wife and mother, the latter, Mrs. J. E. Crabtree, of Athens.
Also surviving are three brothers, Elmer of Corpus Christi; Tony
of Camp Roberts, California; and Bennie of Athens, route 5; five
sisters, Mrs. Millard Davis of Athens, route 5, and Misses
Lillian, Addie Lou, Jackie, Francis Jean, all of the same
address.
The Carroll-Lehr funeral car left Athens with he body at 3 oclock.
All arrangements were by Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home of Athens.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs. Almer Reid
Funeral services for Mrs. Almer Reid, 46, of Athens, route 4, who
died Tuesday, March 16, at 6:30 A. M. at her home, were held
Wednesday morning at 11 oclock at the Red Hill Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, one son, Carl Taylor, stationed
at Camp Pyote, Texas, with the army; six sisters, Mrs. Ruby
Barnes of Brownsboro, Mrs. Odist Hill of Edom, Mrs. Gladys Huff
of Gordon, Mrs. W. Frank Taroline of Athens, Mrs. Elsie Taylor of
Dallas; three brothers, Ermit Taylor of Ben Wheeler, Olen Taylor
of Chandler, and Bob Mullins of Murchison.

Funeral Held for Sandra Jenice Pierce
Funeral services for Sandra Jenice Pierce, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. M. B. Pierce of Payne Springs who died in Houston Monday
night, were held Thursday afternoon at 4 oclock at Payne
Springs.
Interment was in the Payne Springs cemetery. The child was
thirteen months and twenty-one days of age.
Mrs. Pierce has been seriously ill at the home of Mr. Pierces
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mack Pierce, at Payne Springs. Mr. Pierce
is employed as a welder in the Houston shipyards.

Resident Eustace Forty Years Dies; Funeral Wednesday
Funeral services for Mrs. G. L. Griffith, 71, of Eustace, who
died Tuesday, March 16, at 3:30 a.m. at the home of a daughter,
Mrs. Roscoe Holcomb, in Kemp, were held Wednesday morning at
10:30 oclock at the Mabank Methodist Church.
The services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Williford of
Eustace and the Methodist pastors of Kemp and Mabank.
Mrs. Griffith had lived in and near Eustace for about forty
years, but had made her home in Kemp the past few months because
of failing health.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Roscoe Holcomb, Mrs. Dave
Drenman of Grand Prairie, Mrs. Bryan Nicholson of Collin county,
Mrs. Odis Clark of Fort Worth, and Mrs. A. G. Scharbrough of Fort
Worth; one son, General Griffith of Trinidad; one sister, Mrs. J.
M. Hastings of Eustace, and one brother, Will Moore of Electra.

Sgt. McMullen Dies In Action In North Africa
Sgt. Eddie Lee McMullen, formerly of Athens, was killed in action
in the North African theatre of the war, according to a message
received Friday from the War Department by his mother, Mrs. J. E.
Reason, of Dallas.
The date of Sgt. McMullens death was not given, but he was
reported missing on March 25.
He enlisted in the Army in October, 1940, and had been overseas
since last August. He was stationed in England and Scotland
before going to North Africa.
Sgt. McMullen is a nephew of Mrs. Walter Yarbrough, of Athens,
and attended school in Athens.

Funeral For Robert King Held Sunday
Funeral services for Robert D. King, 45, Trinidad merchant who
died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Trinidad Friday
night about 7 oclock, were held Sunday afternoon at 4 oclock
at the Trinidad Methodis Church.
The services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Bailey. Interment
was in the Mankin cemetery north of Trinidad.
Pallbearers were Lawrence Johnston, Paul Lewis, Reuben Hunter,
Jack Davis, Garrett Holcomb, Walter Grider, Buster Bunn and Danny
Cartwright.
Mr. King, a prominent businessman of Trinidad for a number of
years, is survived by his wife, a daughter Bobbi Lynette,
Trinidad; three brothers, Tom King, Trinidad; Homer King,
Levelland; Ben King, Purdon; two sisters, Miss Hallye King,
Houston and Mrs. Claudia Seyer, Refugio.
