Funeral Services for Joe Johnson Conducted Sunday
Rites for Joe H. Johnson, 52 of Crescent Heights were conducted
Sunday at 2 p. m at the graveside in the Trinity cemetery, with
Rev. W. B. Peasison of the First Baptist Church of Trinidad,
officiating.
Mr. Johnson died Saturday morning in a local hospital.
A resident of Henderson County for many years, he was a watch
repairman and a member of the First Baptist Church. He was
survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wright of Athens.
Pallbearers were Stanley Hounsel, Grady Harkins, Louis Hounsel,
Herbert Yates, Jessie Thomas and Royall Hounsel.
In charge of arrangements was the Hassel & Foster Funeral
Home.

Services Held for Life Long Resident of Cayuga Monday
Funeral services for the late James William Seat, 64 years of
age, were conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Judson
Baptist Church at Cayuga by Rev. H. C. Funderbunk, pastor of the
church, assisted by the Rev. R. B. McDonald, pastor of the
Assembly of God congregation.
Mr. Seat died in a Jacksonville hospital after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of the Cayuga community where he was
engaged in farming and livestock raising.
He is survived by the widow, six daughters, Mrs. Mary Lee
Turlington of Malakoff, Mrs. Lucille Randolph of Houston. Mrs..
Hattie
Mae Grimes of Conroe, Mrs. Claude Murry of Bethel, Mrs. Ruby
Shields of Magnolia, Ark., and Mrs. Mildred Middleton of Lufkin.
A brother, J. W. Seat of Cayuga and two sisters, Mrs. M. C. Pitts
of Mercedes, and Mrs. Belle Bronson of New Fork, Va., also
survive.
There are 14 grandchildren.
Interment was made in the Judson Cemetery at Cayuga under the
direction of the Hassel & Foster Funeral Home of Athens.

Former Anderson Landowner Dies
W. H. C. Goode, holder of large tracts of land near Bethel and
Cayuga and former resident of that area, died Sunday at his home
in
Sidney, Ohio, it has been learned here.
He moved to Ohio several years ago.

Funeral Services for Mrs. H. Eoff Held Here Sunday
Funeral services for *Mrs. Hattie Mae Eoff of Athens were held at
the First Baptist church, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock with
interment in the Athens City Cemetery. Rev. Walter E. Floyd,
pastor to the church, conducted the services.
Mrs. Eoff was born in Missouri on February 7, 1882, moving to
Henderson County 34 years ago. She had resided in Athens for the
past five years and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She was married to C. C. Eoff of Proten, Mo., in 1899 before
moving to Texas.
Surviving are the husband; two sons, Raymond and Charles, both of
Athens, and three daughters, Miss Girna Eoff of Waco. Mrs.
Ruth Dunlay of Lead Hill, Ark., Miss Dorothy Eoff of San
Francisco.
Also surviving are a brother and sister, Bill Jeesie and Mrs.
George McManus of Hulburt, Okla., also three grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Jeesie.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Hassell

Funeral Services For Pvt. C. R. McWhorter Held in Athens Friday
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Pvt. *Clifton
R. McWhorter at the Carroll Springs cemetery. Rev. R. S.
Marshall,
pastor of the First Methodist Church of Athens conducted services
at the graveside.
Pvt. McWhorter was born and reared in the Carroll Springs
community and was a graduate of Athens High School.
He was a member of the 17th Infantry Division stationed in the
Aleutian Islands and lost his life on May 29, 1943 on Attu.
He is survived by the parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. McWhorter and a
brother, O. B. McWhorter of Altus Okla. * Carroll Springs

Mrs. Elrod Passes At Brushy Creek; Funeral Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. C. M. Elrod, 76, who died last
Wednesday night at her home in the Brushy Creek community, were
held
Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Neches Cemetery.
The services were conducted by Rev. Hendricks of Marshall and
Rev. Ditterline of LaRue. Burial was in the Neches Cemetery.
Surviving are two step-sons, S. P. Elrod of Galveston and Tom C.
Elrod of Frankston, and two step-daughters, Mrs. G. M. Wilcox of
Baytown and Mrs. A. L Evans of Palestine.

Mrs. C. J. Griffin Died In Dallas Tues. Morning
Mrs. *Cara Bell Griffin, wife of C. J. Griffin, who had been very
low for the past week, died at 1:00 o'clock Tuesday morning in
the
Baptist sanitarium, Dallas, according to advices received here.
The remains were brought to Athens this morning and funeral
services were held from the Christian Church Wednesday morning,
at 10 o'clock by Rev. Nimmo Goldston, assisted by the other
pastors of the city.
Mrs. Griffin had been ill for the past seven months and some six
weeks ago she was carried to the sanitarium for an operation.
Physicians, after examining her, announced there was no hope for
her recovery and she had been gradually sinking since.
Surviving her are her husband, father, one brother and a sister,
Mrs. Vivian Milner of this city. Prior to her marriage to Mr.
Griffin she was Miss Cara Bell Dickerson of Poynor.
Deceased was reared at Poynor and following her marriage moved to
Athens where she and her husband resided for some years.
About two years ago they moved to California and later moved back
to Texas.
Mrs. Griffin was 36 years of age. She and Mr. Griffin were
married October 17, 1922.
News of her death was received with sadness by the many friends

Funeral Services For Newman McGlaun Held Thursday
Funeral services for *Newman J. McGlaun, 19 some of Mr. and Mrs.
R. R. McGlaun of the Mill Run community were held Thursday
morning at the Christian Church. Rev. Nimmo Goldston conducted
the services. Interment followed in the city cemetery.
McGlaun died Wednesday of blood poison at the home of his
grandmother, Mrs. Spear, at Murchison, following a week's
illness.
He is survived by his parents, four brothers and one sister. He
was a member of the First Christian Church here. He had been
employed as a worker on the highway. * Athens City Cemetery

Jim Black Buried Thursday Afternoon At Shelby Chapel
Final rites for Jim Black, about 70, who died Wednesday night at
the home of his son, Jess, near Athens, were held Thursday
afternoon in the Shelby Chapel community. H. C. Ivy of Athens, an
old-time friend of the deceased conducted the services.
Interment followed in the cemetery in that community.
