T. H. Williams

Originally from Clark county, Mississippi where he was born July 29,
1856, T. H. Williams came to Texas in 1872 and settled in the Payne
Springs community in Henderson county and has lived continuously in that
community. A pioneer in that section he is known far and wide as "Uncle
Tom" Williams.  He was married Oct. 7, 1876, to Miss Mary P. Avant.  They
have 14 children, six boys and 8 girls; all resident on farms.
Uncle Tom has by thrift and industry, prospered, and although comfortably
situated he and his good wife continue to enjoy the activities incident
to conducting a rather large farm and have not by any means quit work.
Uncle Tom has always kept a herd of cattle and hogs regardless of whether
prices were high or low, and very few if any years of the 45 that he has
conducted his farm, have they failed to net a respectful income, and
though not as large operator now as he was in former years, he still
markets his beef and pork on foot at a profit.
Although Uncle Tom secured little education in the school room, he has
succeeded in giving his children every advantage of the schools in the
community.  He is a member of the W. O. W.  He has always been active in
politics, but has never asked for office for himself.
Ripe in experience, upright and kindly in his bearing toward friends and
neighbors he was and is, a leader in his community and to him is due much
of the advancement of the section he lives in and which he has seen change
from a veritable wilderness, to a splendid section of farm homes.
Much of the success of the man is due to the good wife who has more than
faithfully toiled with him through the years, and she shares with him the
love and respect of all who have been privileged to come in contact with
them in their long life of usefulness and service.
