D. W. Parker

Mr. D. W. Parker, of the firm of Parker & Dingler, of Chandler was born in Van Zandt county, Texas, Dec. 22, 1873. He came with his parents to Henderson county in 1887. They located in Athens, where Mr. Parker attended school. Being very studious and desiring to accomplish more than the average youth, at the age of seventeen Mr. Parker had made sufficient progress in an educational way that he was enabled to secure his certificate to teach school and this he did, teaching for sixteen years successively.

Mr. Parker was married in 1897 to Miss Gauda Green. They have a son and a daughter. Mr. Parker was reared on a farm and followed farming for many years. He still owns farm lands in this county. He came to Chandler in 1911 and for three years he was in the employ of Mr. B. C. Hall, who was at that time a leading merchant of Chandler. In 1917 Mr. Parker purchased an interest in the business which he now operates. He has me with deserved success. He has high ideals and believes in doing things right. Mr. Parker is a thorough Texan and is proud of the fact that his education was secured in the state of his birth. He recalls many old schoolmates around Athens, among them Judge Bishop, for whom he has a great admiration. He is progressive and aggressive. Doesn't believe in simply drifting, but in stepping out and assisting public enterprises that merit his attention. His church affiliation is with the Baptists. At the age of seventeen he joined the Baptist Church and he has been a consistent and active member since that time. At present Mr. Parker is a deacon in his church, and an all round good citizen of Chandler.
