A. B. Culbertson

Mr. A. B. Culbertson is a native Henderson County man, having been born in this county, April 16, 1894. After finishing high school work here, he was ambitious to secure a good education, and therefore attended Rusk Baptist College and later attended the East Texas State Teachers' College at Commerce, where he prepared himself for school work, and for some time was engaged in educational pursuits.

Developing a liking for the profession of law, Mr. Culbertson became a student, and in 1919 was admitted to the bar. Before being admitted to the bar however, Mr. Culbertson took a fling at polities, and was elected to the office of tax assessor in 1916. He resigned from that office to become one of Uncle Sam's navy and spent several months in that
department before the armistice was signed, ending hostilities.

He came back home in 1919 and was honored with the appointment
of Postmaster of Athens, which position he filled creditably for four years. During his term as postmaster, his friends entered his name as a candidate for State Adjutant of the American Legion. He made a close race, but was defeated by a very popular and capable man, who is now the State Adjutant, located at Dallas. His many friends stood by him loyally and almost won a victory for a very great honor.

After relinquishing the office of postmaster, Mr. Culbertson took up the practice of law. Last year he became a candidate for County Attorney and was honored by the voters of Henderson county by election to that important office. His friends say he is making a very fine record as County Attorney.

One of the important events of Mr. Culbertson’s life occurred on August 26, 1919, when he was united in Marriage to Miss Ruby Myers of Dallas. They have one little daughter, aged 4.

Mr. Culbertson is an active member of the Baptist Church, being a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Athens. He is a Mason and
also a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Mr. Culbertson is a rock-ribbed Democrat, being one of the really staunch party men. He is ever ready to uphold his party's principles. He is truly a self-made young man, having lost both his father and mother when a small boy, and has had to fight for his education.
And he has won out with the odds against him.

According to census records he is Ambrose B. Culbertson
