Letter from Myrtle D. Thomasson

July 20

Dear Bill and Jean,   (William F. Huddleston, son of Willis F. Huddleston, Grand Son of William C. Huddleston and Great Grand Son of Stephen Huddleston)

So Sorry, but about all I know of the Huddlestons is - three brothers left England during a cholora epidemic,  When they left NY I think our part of the family settled in Missouri or perhaps farther east & later came to Missouri.  We have some distant cousins in Texas.  When I went to Huntsville I thought we were the only Huddlestons.  I found out I had much to live up to as there had been many of them there and all were brilliant.  Your mother collected a lot of data.  Grandpa Huddleston had a brother , Newton.  Mrs. Veasey was his daughter & she lived with Grandpa most of her life.  Her parents died early.  Her brother had childred who settled in New Mexico.  Young Veasey once went to California & he looked them up.  He said they had the looks of being very successful and did not think to much of him.  There is a Huddleston living here (Hawaii) and I keep thinking I'll call him up, but just procastmating.  There is a Huddleston Lane in London.

This was from Myrtle D Thomasson

I don't know when my great aunt wrote this letter it is dated "JULY 20" with no year. I do know she died about 1983. She went to the HUNTVILLES NORMAL INSTITUTE, its now know as the University of Sam Houston in Huntsville Texas in 2 years not the usual 4 years. We have her sheep skin diploma. She taught school in West Texas, Puerto Rico and the moved to Hawaii in the 1920s. She was there when the harbor was bombed. She retired as a principle of one of the schools on Oahu. We also have her diary she wrote the first year or two she was in Hawaii. After her first husband died, Tage Holberg she went on a floating University. Later after her second husband died David Thomasson she traveled a lot at least 2 world trips a year. That is when I got to see her. On her trips her nick name was "TEXAS" because she was from Texas and also because she was 6'1" .

My aunt in Hawaii name was Myrtle Dorcus Huddlteston. Her sister also went with her. Her name was Lola Huddleston. She has a daughter in California.
