Burr Family
Charley BURR (1848 - 1881) came to Texas with his two sons, Frank Moore and Bernie F BURR. Family tradition tells that his wife (name unknown) was killed in a devasting tornado in Ohio in the late 1870's As they ran for shelter with little Bernie in her arms, a fence post struck a fatal blow to her head. Soon after Charley took the boys to Texas, he passed away in 1881 leaving the boys orphaned. Friends took them in and they lived out their lives in Athens, TX. Frank (1870 - 1848) and Bernie (1874 - 1953) BURR are buried in Athens City Cemetery. [They married Ella and Fannie (MURPHY), both daughters of William R. and Nancy "Nannie" Louisiana (RICHARDSON) MURPHY of Athens].
My husband, Gary PREWITT descends from 1 Charley Burr; through his son 2 Frank and wife, Ella (Murphy) BURR; through their daughter, 3 Nancy Frances (BURR) and Jabe P. PERKINS; 4 Ella Frank (PERKINS) and Haskell Lee PREWITT.
Ella PREWITT (1923 - 2002) was born in Athens, relocating to Dallas after high school. After the death of her husband in 1993, she returned to Athens to live out her life on the land that has been passed down through the Perkins line. She and Haskell are buried in Davis Cemetery, outside of Athens.
