Norris Starkey Elected Supt. Local
School In Coming Year

Mr. Norris Starkey, presently serving as superintendent of the
Hudson Independent School District, has been elected by the local
board of trustees, as superintendent of the Malakoff system, to
succeed Tom P. Linam, resigned.
Mr. Starkey will assume his duties here at the end of the current
year on June 30th, at which time Mr. Linam=s resignation becomes
effective. Mr. Linam, during the coming year, will serve as
superintendent in the public school system at Mart, Texas.
Prior to his present superintendency at the Hudson Schools, a
position which he had held since July 1, 1951, Mr. Starkey
coached athletics at Timpson High School, Timpson; Spring Hill
School, Longview; and Carlisle High School, Price, Texas. He
returned to Timpson as high school principal following World War
II.
He received his higher education at Lon Morris College at
Jacksonville and Stephen F. Austin State College, Nacogdoches,
playing football at both of these schools. He holds a B. S. and
an M. A. degree from Stephen F. Austin.
Mr. Starkey is 33 years old and his wife is the former Miss Inez
Weesner of Frankston. They have one child, a boy 8 years old.
They are members of the Methodist Church.
In his letter of acceptance to the Malakoff School Board, Mr.
Starkey said, AMy family joins me in an expression of
appreciation to you good people for your confidence and trust in
us, and we shall always try hard to merit your continued support
and confidence. We shall look forward, he added, Ato our living
and working in your school and community.
