Nipak, Inc., has scheduled formal opening ceremonies for its $25 million Trinity Complex April 2 at the plant’s site immediately west of the Trinity River from Trinidad on State Highway 31, according to Roy E. Jury, Nipak vice president.

In conjunction with the opening of this giant industry, the largest to be established in East Texas in a number of years, The Malakoff News will publish a special 16 page section commemorating the formal opening of this great plant. The section is being published at the request of the Malakoff and Trinidad Chambers of Commerce.

Both cities, Malakoff and Trinidad, which are located within a 5-mile radius of the industry, are going all out to welcome this important milestone in the industrial development with the mayor of each city proclaiming Friday, April 2, NIPAK DAY. The actual proclamations will appear in the forthcoming issue. Identification cards of welcome are now being prepared by the News office which will be worn by representatives of this area attending the celebration, as well as for store employees who will be unable to attend.

Every person in the entire area surrounding Nipak is urged to attend the dedication to show appreciation to Lone Star for having the foresight to choose this fine location with its wealth of natural resources and transportation facilities.

Special features of the day-long open house include a dedicatory speech by Governor John B. Connally, bus tours of the modern chemical fertilizer complex and a barbecue lunch. Hours for the open house will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Mr. Jury said.

Construction of the mammoth petrochemical processing facility was begun June 21, 1963. Less than 17 months later, the first car of anhydrous ammonia was shipped from the complex. The Trinity River Complex is now producing anhydrous ammonia, feed and fertilizer grade urea, ammonium nitrate, direct application nitrogen solutions and ammonium phosphates at near design capacity.
