Rev. Stanley Wilkes came to the First Baptist Church of Malakoff
several times for revivals in the 1930s. Rev. J; L. Brantley had
come to the church as pastor in 1934. Brantley's ministry had
lead the church into a building program during the midst of the
Great Depression. This construction project gave work to local
craftsmen and made use of local building materials. The brick
building, as well as additional educational space, was the result
of that program. Louis Scholl and Wayne Evans proposed a method
of finance for the project. It was called "THE
DOLLAR-A-MONTH CLUB." Pledges were taken from all who
volunteered to give that much above their regular offerings each
month.
The popularity of Rev. Brantley and Rev. Wilkes is revealed by
this picture of the Men's Bible Class which was normally taught
by Rev. Brantley. The following are the 'identified' attendees of
