Calhoun C. "Cal" Lucas was born in Malakoff on August
28, 1876, and spent his entire life almost within the shadow of
his birthplace. In his early years, he lived on a farm just north
of town and was recognized as one of the most enterprising and
successful farmers in this entire section. In later years, he
followed the carpenter's trade in this community to earn a
livelihood for himself and family, and during these years his saw
and hammer helped to fashion many of the town's present residence
and business structures.
On December 1, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Rosa
Dunton who was born in Kerens, Navarro County, on June 30, 1878.
Cal and Rosa Lucas had ten children, three of whom - twin boys
Mack and Billie who died in infancy - and Pearl, a daughter, who
passed away in 1926, preceded their parents in death.
At the time of his death at age 66 on February 20, 1943,
"Cal" Lucas was recognized as Malakoff's oldest citizen
from point of residence. His funeral was held at the First
Baptist Church. The services were conducted by Mr. Tom Johnson,
assisted by the church pastor, the Reverend Joe Shaver.
"Cal" Lucas was buried in the Malakoff City Cemetery
under direction of Ballard Funeral Home.

Methodist Church in Malakoff, and she was buried in the Malakoff
