Carson Lumber Is Now Located In New Hi-Way Home
Materials From Old Yard Buildings, South Terry Street, May Be
Used In
Construction of Dwellings
from The Malakoff News
Friday, June 10, 1949
The Carson Lumber Company, one of Malakoff's oldest business
institutions, after several months of construction, is now
permanently
located in their modern and attractive new business home on
Highway 31.
The new building, which is situated on the company's property
acquired
some years ago, covers a ground space of 90 X 135-feet by
88-feet, and
contains four 14-foot plate glass windows, which lends a
commanding
view from the inside and at the same time greatly enhances the
outside
appearance of the building.
The construction work of the new yard, which in its ultimate
completion
has served to greatly improve the overall picture of the city's
ever-growing
business section, began in February this year and was finished in
its
entirety only recently. Several weeks have been required for the
company's
men to transfer the huge stocks of building materials from the
old yard to the
new location.
Work has been going on for some time in dismantling the old yard
and buildings
at the former location on South Terry Street and salvaging the
materials for other
construction purposes. The office quarters in the old yard which
was remodeled
only a short time ago, D. H. Carson, manager for the company
said, will probably
be sold intact to be moved from the property and converted into a
modern new
dwelling. The other usable materials salvaged from the old yard
structures,
Mr. Carson said, will also likely be used in the construction of
at least two dwelling
houses, provided, he added, that suitable building lots can be
obtained.
