A new and ultra-modern automobile service station, described as
the "EM" type, to be erected by Paul Bankston on his
newly acquired Terry Street-Highway 31 property, is expected to
be into the process of construction shortly after April 1st.
The station, which Mr. Bankston estimated would necessitate an
outlay of approximately $15,000 and pictured above from the
architect's drawing, will be under lease to The Texas Company,
manufacturers of Texaco Products. The lease contract, which
covers a period of 10 years with three additional 5-year option
periods, has already been signed and the company will be ready to
institute operations as soon as the structure is completed.
The new station, which Mr. Bankston said is to be strictly modern
in every respect, will occupy a ground space of 72 x 100 feet and
will be equipped with the latest type equipment throughout.
It will contain ample office and showroom space, wash and grease
racks, electric drinking fountain and two modern rest rooms.
The building will be of brick construction and painted in
accordance with Texaco's color scheme. The property from the
building to the property lines on both the Highway and Terry
Street sides will be concreted, and hard-surface topping will be
laid from there to connect with the paving on both streets.
Mr. Bankston told the news this week that as soon as it can be
started, construction work will be rushed through to completion
as rapidly as possible in the hopes of completing the entire
project within a sixty-day period.
