Barber, Veteran Of Pacific Theater Receives
Discharge
W. T. Barber, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. T. Barber
of Athens, has received a discharge from the Marine
Corps and is now with his wife and daughter, Fan, at their home
in Coahoma.
Mr. Barker, who held the rating of corporal, served for two years
in the Pacific with the Marine Second Division. He participated
in the invasion of the Marshalls, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa, and
at the end of the war he was stationed on Saipan. He was sent
from there to Nagasaki, Japan, and sailed from Nagasaki for the
States. He arrived in San Diego, California, on December 26.
He wears among other decorations, the Presidential Citation and
the Expert Rifleman's Medal.
Mr. Barber was engaged in ranching and farming
when he volunteered for service in April of 1943, and will return
to that business.
