Walnut Creek

Sept. 15 -- Our school began yesterday with an enrollment of 75 pupils.
There was a change in the faculty when Miss Sanders of Athens resigned.
However the vacancy was filled by Mrs. Joe Christopher of this community.
Miss Sanders has taught here for the last two years and was esteemed
by all her pupils.  We were very sorry indeed to give her up, but her place
was very ably filled by Mrs. Christopher.

Since my last report this section was visited by a five-inch rain which was
badly needed, giving us plenty of stock water and assures fall gardens.
This was the biggest rain since last September and breaks a drouht of long

duration.

Bennie McGee and Miss Della Mae Willis surprised their many friends by

driving over to Athens Friday night and gettting married.  These are some
of our most popular young people and all of Walnut joins us ins offering
congratulations.

Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Tanner motored over to Palestine last week to spend a

few days with their daughter, Mrs. W. C. Dodd.  While there Mr. Tanner visited
the McFarlane cotton patch and says it is real cotton.  He says there has been
9 bales picked from the 5 acres and that there is at least one bale per acre
open on it now.

Geo. Harris is visiting relatives at Kerens this week.

Friends of Miss Ester Brownlow will be please to learn that she has returned

home after six months treatment at San Antonio.

Miss Myrtle Selman has returned home after a short visit at Martins Mill.

Frank Ballow left last Sunday for Marshall where he will attend school.

Mrs. W. C. Dodd and W. C. Jr., of Palestine visited Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Tanner

last week-end.

Rev. Ellis McGaughey of Lon Morris College, Jacksonville attended church here

Sunday afternoon.

Mr. McBright of Gatesville is visiting his sister, Mrs. Luther Crawford.

Arthur Stalter is working in Athens this week.

Since by pessimestic report on cotton last week the price has been steadily

advancing which proves that Wall Street reads and relies on my reports.
My cotton reports are in the same class with Barber's weather predicitioins.

Mrs. Letha Hounsel has been suffering with a rison in her head.

This community will be well represented a the East Texas Cotton Palace.

Fay Rosser, Hulon Rushing and Mr. Francis of this community, Tom Stalter of

Athens and Ed Gains of Stockard are touring the West this week in Mr. Stalter's car.
