Cross Roads Physician Celebrates Birthday On Bank Anniversary
The First National Bank opened for busines fifty years ago on the
birthday of Dr. R. A. Matthews, who will be 85 years of age on
Wednesday, April 17th.
Dr. Matthews, well known physician of Cross Roads, where he has
been practicing medicine for twenty years, is still very active
notwithstanding his age. Although not making as many calls ashe
did when a young man, he still conducts his practice.
The Wednesday anniversary will be celebrated with a family
gathering of his children at the Cross Roads home and at noon a
dinner will be spread.
Dr. Matthews was born in Rusk County but later moved to Hopkins
County to practice. He came from Hopkins to Henderson county in
1920 where he has since lived. He attended the Kentucky School of
Medicineat Louisville.
There are eight living children and most of them plan to be
present Wednesday for the birthday celebration. Mrs. Matthews is
seventy. The eight children are Mrs. H. R. Dukes, Houston; D. R.
Matthews, Gladewater; Mrs. J. W. Moyers, Henderson; P. A.
Matthews, Dallas; Mrs. H. T. Hill, Apple Springs; J. G. Matthews,
Houston; Mrs. B. J. Mayfield, Talco, and Mrs. Hudnall Hale,
Troup.
