Mill Run, August 30-Everything is about dryed up, and news as well!
Some cotton picking going on but it will soon be over.
Corn gathering slow on account of the terribly hot weather, peanuts
are being harvested and are fairly good considering the drought.
We look over the farm of our friend Jim Chipley, who for the past years
had been farming on a paying basis. This year it’s growing to weeds.
There is a reason-ask Jim, he will tell you why.
Mitchell Fullerton of Houston visited in the community over the week-end.
T. B. Allen visited his parents and friends over the week-end. Mr. Allen has
seen overseas service and plenty of it, let him tell you.
Miss Gracie Lewis left Saturday night for Plainview to visit a college friend,
Miss Allice Wilson.
Bennett Lewis is leaving today for a hospital in Port Arthur, for a re-check
of injuries received in an accident several weeks ago, while in South Texas.
We extend our sympathy to the family of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Fuller whose
son, Roy Lee, was laid to rst in the cemetery at Rhome Thursday afternoon.
Grover Boyd and wife of Dallas were visitors here over the week-end.
A birthday party as the home of Mrs. Linbarger Saturday, was enjoyed by
a host of friends and relatives. The occasion was celebrating the anniversaries
of Mrs. Lola Lane, Misses Ovells, Ola Faye, and Vonella Mills. (They are not
quadruplets.)
A nice dinner was served and everyone expressed themselves as being
well filled although we are rationed. Many nice and useful presents were
given to each of the honorees.
Mrs. Essie Bucklew of Dallas visited Mrs. Geo. McElhany over the week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Coleman visited in he neighborhood over the week-end.
John and Rufe McElhany of Athens and Eustace visited their mother, Mrs.
Geo. McElhany, during the week
