1930 - Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Carroll and daughters, Mrs. Helen Carroll Bever, and the latter's little daughter, have returned from an extended trip to California.

Mrs. Grace Murchison left today for Billinger where she will teach this term.

H. D. Pickens, prominent farmer, has purchased three bales of cotton in the current buy-a-bale movement.

Alderman Hart and County Attorney Mobley are both boasting about the arrival of bouncing boys at their homes.

B. N. Harden and Steve Loper came in Friday on the T & N O from College Station.  They say they had a big time.

Rev. R. W. Benge has returned from his vacation and there will be regular services at the Presbyterian Church.

G. B. Whitley, who recently moved to Athens, has purchased the Athens Knocker and has taken charge of same.  He will change the name of the paper to Athens Banner, under which name the next issue will appear.

Thousands of papers and scores of musty old record books in which are recorded much of Henderson County's early history are being dug out, renovated and indexed for reference and future use under the WPA Records Project in the office of County Clerk Jack Owen.  J. J. Austell is foreman of the local unit which employs 10 workers at a monthly payroll of $442.

The city commission voted to appropriate $25 monthly toward upkeep of the Athens City Cemetery after a committee composed of A. F. Wood, R. B. Royall and John Lehr appeared before the body and made the request.

A project for the construction of a 4 room addition to Fisher School, to be constructed by NYA labor, will be started soon, Newbern Stirman, president of the school board, has been notified.

E. M. Henderson, dean of school board members with more than 20 years to his credit, has tendered his resignation due to his ill health.

Past presidents of the Athens Kiwanis Club will meet this evening at the home of Raymond Robbins, first president of the club, to effect an organization of a Kiwanis Past Presidents Club, invited to attend are Ernest Cornelius; The Rev. S. L. Terry, now of San Antonio; J. T. Life, Ed Green Walker; the Rev. Nimino Golston now of Center; L. W. Ewing, now of Tyler; Leon Barron, Dr. N. D. Geddie, W. Clint Wilks, S. L. R. Cartlidge, Ross L. Dixon, Dr. H. R. Tucker and Joel Lusk, present president.
