Big Explosion Heard over East Texas
Tyler, Texas, April 26- Citizens at Rusk, Jacksonville, Sacul, Troup, Henderson, Arp, Overton and intermediate points heard an explosion of some kind.
Many rumors are afloat as to the cause, but up to the time of going to press this afternoon, the Courier Times, had failed to ascertain the cause. The editor communicated with Jacksonville, Troup, Overton and other points, and the nearest solution he could find to the noise was that a meteor was seen to pass over Rusk this morning, making the terrific noise heard.
The meteor evidently struck somewhere within forty or fifty miles southeast of Tyler.
It was first reported that the oil pipe line which runs through the east portion of Smith county and thence on to the Gulf of Mexico had been dynamited, but this is not true. At least no verification of any such dynamiting could be found.
Anyway, there was a big explosion in East Texas this morning and hundreds of people are wondering what it was.
The explosion was not heard in this city.
