From The Malakoff News
Friday, August 30, 1935
A. W. Norton, better known as "Dub," celebrated mentor
of the champion high school football team last season, tendered
his resignation to the Board of Trustees Friday morning. It is
understood that Norton resigned his position here to take another
in one of the city schools in San Antonio, his home town.
Elects New Man
To fill the vacancy occurring in the resignation of Mr. Norton,
the board of Trustees elected "Pepper" Martin, an
outstanding athlete from the East Texas State Teacher's College
at Commerce. Mr. Martin entered his new duties immediately after
his election and left early Monday morning with his team for
Rockport for their preseason training.
Hollis Boone, who has been serving as principal of the grammar
school for several years, also accompanied the team to the south
Texas city. Mr. Boone, by action of the Board, will assume the
duties as co-coach in high school athletics and will share equal
power with coach Martin.
