Cross Roads, August 12-Cross Roads Gin Co. ginned the first bale last Tuesday for the hurt brothers. The Hurts said they picked five acres. Bill Garner came in with the second bale. He said he picked seven acres to get his bale.

T. H. Benton of Corsicana, gave B. Welch a visit last week. Benton and B. Welch worked together 17 years ago at Emhouse.

The Kerens Boostes gave Cross a call last Tuesday. There were 16 cars and 50 people and a band. They expect to pull off a big fair in October. They informed the writer Kerens had ginned twenty bales of cotton this season.

Little Jocey Sparks of Beck’s Chapel spent Friday with Mrs. Askew of Cross Roads and she brought “Uncle” Dick some fine peaches. Thanks.

John Jackson and Walter Ferguson of Malakoff, passed through Cross Roads last week. They was they had been to Freestone county and said the ball worm was bad in that county.

L. A. Horton made a business rip to Dallas last week.

The writer has estimated the cotton crop at six acres to the bale.

M. I. Welch’s fine cow died last week.

The Review made me say Cross Roads has preaching every Sunday night. You ought to have said prayer meeting.

The Review weather prophet lost out last week; what a pity.

Mrs. Hill of Freeport, Texas, is visiting her father, Dr. Matthews.

When Cross Roads’ gins closed down Saturday they had put up 53 bales of cotton for this season.

“Uncle” Jack Barton and son, Jim, put a well down last week for A. H. Askew.

S. L. Sutton and daughter, Miss Hallie, visited Calvert last week.

G. W. Halloway of Cayuga, was in Cross Roads Saturday.

Special Correspondence
Opelika, August 12-The dry weather is still holding on. All of the crops in our section are burnt up.

Bro. Daily failed to fill his regular appointment Sunday night.

Our singing school is doing fine. The term is half over now. We are sure going to have some well trained singers when the school is over.

Tom Howell of Athens, spent the week-end with homefolks.

Sunday school was fairly well attended in Sunday.

Cotton is opening fast. It will soon be ready to pick.
