FINCASTLE
As there has not been any news from this place in some time will try to send in some. There is a lot of colds and flu in the community.
This is the beginning of a New Year and farmers are making plans for another crop.
Mrs. Mollie Scarborough has returned home after a visit with her mother, of Quanah.
Mrs. Leslie Boles and baby of Crockett spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Boles.
Oscar Campbell of Galveston spent last week with his wife and children.
Those who spent the holidays in the W.O. Taylor home were Mr. and Mrs. Tolbert Harrison of Corsicana, Kenneth Harrison of Navarra and Jenson Taylor of Galveston.
Wanda Dickerson of Houston spent the holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Dickerson.
TOOL
We haven't had any Sunday school the past two Sundays. The weather has been too bad.
There were quite a few visitors here for Christmas.
There are several in theis community sick with the flu.
We are glad to have Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Breland and Fred Morley back in our community from the Weller community.
Mr. and Mrs. George Pearce and girls, Orene, Moren, Minnie Pearl and Eva Jean, have gone to Slaton to spend a few days with relatives.
Royce Mullins of Dallas spent last week with Claudie Mullins.
Mr. and Mrs. Orvill D. Smith are building them a new home at Tool.
Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Mullins had a letter from their son, S/Sgt. Berl, last week. He is now somewhere in Italy and said he liked Italy better than North Africa.
Mr. and Mrs. W.T. White had bad luck this week. Their smoke house burned down. All their meat, lard, seed peas and home made soap burned. They had to work to keep the house from burning down.
Mrs. Will Snowden is in Athens with her little grandson, Cliff Junior who has the flu.
MARTIN SPRINGS
A new year of hope and promise has begun for those of us who have a loved one in the service.
The people here were saddened by the death of a dear friend and neighbor, Mr. Floyd Greer, Everyone knew him as a good Christian. Mr. Greer had been ill for some time. He is survived by his wife and children, Huddnell Greer of Leesville, La.; Horace Greer of Dallas, Ray Greer of Houston, Joe Greer of Las Vegas, Nev., Alvin Greer of Chandler, Mrs. Phalba Herring of Dallas, Mrs. May Call of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Clinton Shelton and Mrs. Flora Hargett of Chandler.
KERENS
The Kerens High School building was destroyed by fire Tuesday about midnight and reports here stated that it was possible that the home economics building was destroyed or damaged. Wade J. Price, bookkeeper at the Henry Motor Company her, who commutes each day between his home in Kerens and Athens said that he watched the flames for some time from his bedroom window, but that he did not go to the fire and left Kerens for Athens on the 6:30 a.m. Train and did not learn any particulars concerning the fire or the extent of the damage. Mr. Price, whose wife, Mrs. Gladys H. Price, is a math teacher in the Kerens High School, said that a high wind was blowing in the direction of the home economics cottage, a wooden structure, and that it was possible that the cottage was damaged.
