An Honored Citizen
Rev. W. B. Stirman, one of the oldest citizens and preachers of the county, attended services at
the Christian church Sunday and at the Presbyterian church Sunday night.  Bro. Stirman has
done a great work in his day.  He has about quit preaching now owing to his feeble physical
condition.  We told him we would like to hear him preach again.  There is a pathos and a
straightforwardness about the preaching of these old preachers of all denominations that
seems to us to have a quality that is lacking in modern style of preaching.  Bro. Stirman
has married over 1000 couples in Texas, and the number he has baptized is unknown to
him as he kept no record.  He has served his county also as representative and senator.
We hope his remaining days may be peaceful and happy.

TO OUR FRIENDS
Customers, and people of Henderson and Adjoining Counties, Greetings:
The Nineteenth Century is rapidly drawing to a close, and the new one is
rapidly approaching.  This, the closing year of the century, has been one of
unexampled prosperity.  The earth has rersponded bountifully to the labors
of the husbandman.  Prices of all kinds of farm products have been and are now
very remunerative.
There is much to encourage everbody to begin the new century with hopeful
hearts and bright prospects.  None seeing the first year of it can hope to see the
last one.  We might moralize and speculate ad infinitum, but that is not our
purpose.  We want to thank the people for the liberal patronage they have given
us, and to remind them that we will still be at the same place with everything that
is usually kept in a first class hardware store, as well as a stock of wagons,
buggies, furniture, farming implements, cooking stoves, sewing machines, etc.
We invite the continued patronage of the people, and will do all in our power to
make it to their interest to trade with us the next year.
We wish you a merry Christmas and continued prosperity during the new year,
the first of the Twentieth Century.
Respectfully
Miller Carroll & Spencer.

Singing Convention
Editor or REVIEW, Kind Sir:
Please allow me to announce that the Athens singing convention will convene at
Post Oak, five or six miles south of Malakoff, on the fifth Sunday and Saturday
before in this month.  I would be glad to know that alll classes belonging to this
conbention was represented.  I will not have the pleasure of attending the
convention myself, since the executive board of the Saline Baptist Association,
of which I am a member, meets on same date; but I hope that the eonvention will
be a success, and that everyone who attends will go home feeling glad that he
attended.
Respectfully,
J. W. SOUTHERLAND PRESIDENT,
GUY HOWEL SECRETARY
