ALEY

(Special Correspondence)
Aley, Feb 19 - Saturday night just before day we had a downpour of rain, accompanied by quite a wind storm. With a brisk norther and a clear sky Sunday morning. The winter thus far has been unusually warm.

The past Wednesday R. L. (Lee) Gardner died and was buried at King’s cemetery Thursday. Mr. Gardner had been in bad health for several years. He is survived by his wife and seven children. He also has one brother and one sister living: William Gardner of Pauls Valley, Okla. and Mrs. E. C. Carrifee of this place. All the relatives attended the funeral except two sons and a daughter, Jack and Jim Gardner and Mrs. Maggie Jones, of California. The Rev. L. M. Masters of Terrell, conducted the funeral services.

Most everybody in this part is engaged at gardening. Such as planting of Irish potatoes, onions, cabbage and the early plants. By next week some say if the weather is favorable they will plant corn.

Health in this part is good at this writing excepting bad colds and hoarseness. C. C. Wright visited the writer last night; he was so hoarse we could not recognize his voice.
C. C. (Chester) Wright foreman of CWA says he has orders to work fourteen men 15 hours beginning today then the work will cease. This work has been the means of subsistance for many worthy people during the winter months. Let us hope by the time another winter arrives that we will not have any further need for CWA or direct relief. Give us high prices for farm products then we are assured that prosperity will abide with all classes.

END (note: norther and subsistance were spelled this way in the article)
