NEWS OF THE WEEK FROM TRINIDAD
COLD WEATHER HARD ON THE FARMERS WHO PLANTED $2.50 BUSHEL CORN
Trinidad, March 6 -
W. F. Howard of Corsicana, came over Wednesday.
J.T. Mitchell, who has been cashier of the bank returned to his
home at Barry Wednesday. O.A. Truelove of this place will take up
the work.
Miss Francis Stuart of near Kerens, spent from Thursday until
Sunday with her sister, Mrs. L.A. Head.
A.C. Bentley who is teaching near Purdon, spent Saturday and
Sunday with homefolks here.
The snow Sunday morning didn't look like corn planting weather.
Bro. Rozell was unable to fill his appointment here Sunday on
account of sickness in his family.
Miss Ethelyn Bentley spent Saturday and Sunday with homefolks
here.
The Harry F. Miller Carnival left here Monday for Malakoff, where
they will show this week.
There were a number of prizes offered during the week, one of
which was a set of silverware, offered to the lady who was the
champion nail driver. Mrs Jim McDonald of this place was winner.
Deputy Sheriff Perry of Athens, was here on business Saturday.
Miss Evelyn Bently won the prize of the most popular lady last
week at the carnival. The prize was a beautiful set of Roger's
silverware of twenty-seven pieces. Mr. Bryan Johnston receives
first prize for bringing the largest load Thursday night. He just
brought fourty-three persons, including one baby. His prize was
also a set of silverware.
Miss Stella Mayo of Tool came down Sunday. She was on her way to
her school near Kerens. It has been dismissed for the last two
weeks on account of measles.
Tillman Payne of Malakoff, was here Saturday night and Sunday.
Josephine Swanson, who is teaching here spent Saturday and Sunday
with homefolks at Malakoff.
Miss Ruth Curry of Corsicana visited Dr. and Mrs. L. W. Pulley of
the place.
Little Vitula Miller received the prize for being the prettiest
baby Saturday night.
Rhuell Carroll of Kerens, was here Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Leo
Boatwright had the misfortune to fall Saturday and stick a nail
in her hand. It was nothing serious, althought rather painful for
a while.
Pete Aairhart is able to be up this week.
It it doesn't clear up and turn warmer the farmers will have to plant their corn over. That will go pretty hard with some who are planting two and one-half dollar corn.
C. R. Johnston's house caught fire Sunday night, but did not amount to much. The family had gone to bed when some one at the Eaton Hotel discovered it and went down and woke them up. The fire was caused from a faulty flue.
