Cook Family Holds Reunion in Trinidad The annual reunion of the Cook family, descendants of the late "Uncle" Marion Cook and wife, were held at the Texas Power & light Co., park at Trinidad on August 4th. More than a hundred relatives and guests were present for the occassion and all the living children were present except one. The children who came for the reunion were: Ed Cook, O'Donnel, Texas; Jesse Cook, Dallas; A. J. and George Cook, Eustace; W. M. Cook, Corsicana; Mrs. John Owen, Malakoff and Mrs. J. E. Rogers of Athens. Another daughter, Mrs. R. M. carpenter of Post, Texas, was unable to be present. Neices, nephews, grandchildren were there in large numbers. In addition to relatives the following friends were present; W. W. Slaughter, Canton; Mr. and Mrs. Y. V. Ernest, Pickens and Mrs. J. C. Wood, Athens. The forenoon was spent in handshaking, talking and renewing the ties of kinship and friendship between the Cooks from the various sections of the state--there being Cooks present from the east, Cooks from the North and Cooks from the south. At 12 o'clock a bountiful lunch was spread and enjoyed by everyone present. In the afternoon the reunion was called together for a short business session. Frank Cook of McKinney, Texas was chosen temorary chairman in the absence of the regular chairman, Weldon Cook. The secretary, George Owen, was called upon for a report of the 1934 meeting--not having the minutes at hand he gave an off-hand report. Dr. Hardy Cook of Longview was elected Chairman and A. J. Cook, Vice Chairman. Geo. Owen was reelected secretary. The association noted with regret the absence of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Pickens of Pickens Spur on account of the serious illness of a near relative. Also the absence of Mr. and Mrs. V. I. Stirman of Athens on account of the illness of Mr. Stirman. Also the absence of Mrs. Laura Horn of Kerens, Texas on account of a broken limb. The secretary was instructed to write each of these a letter of regret. The secretary was instructed to write Mr. W. P. Crews of the Texas Power & Light Co., at Trinidad thanking him and also his company for the privilege of holding this meeting in their beautiful park and for the convenlences furnished and also for their kind hospitality. After the business session the association was favored by a short talk from W. W. Slaughter of Canton, Texas, Geo. Simmons of Kerens, Texas; Ed Cook of Lubbock, Texas; Mrs. Agnes Cook Sorrell of Eustace and Will Barnett of Kerens. These talks were followed by the singing of a few special songs requested by some of the older members--among the songs rendered were "In My Lord's Appointed Ways His Journey I'll Pursue." "Where We'll Never Grow Old." "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be." Clayton and daughter, Annie Lue left Saturday morning for Beaumont to spend the week-end with friends there. They plan also to visit in Port Arthur. Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Perkins of Dallas visited on local Perkins Brothers store here Friday morning. Mr. Perkins is founder and president of the Company. |
Bradley Family Reunion Held aAt Ennis Recently Under the heading, "The Bradley Tribe Rallies Here", the following article appeared in a recent issue of the Ennis, Texas, Daily News: July 25th was just another birthday for W. E. Bradley. The following members of the tribe assembled at his home on East Brown street. Mrs. Mamie Robbins Athens; Mrs. Beulah Burney, Austin, Mrs. Vesta Hart, Athens, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bradley Jr. and two daughters Vernon; Mrs. Kate Byrd, Jacksonville; Mrs. Annie Rogers, Athens; Horace Bradley and wife, Jacksonville. A picnic dinner had been prepared and "fetched along" and was spread under a large elm tree in the yard and a feast of food, frolic and fun prevailed that only the Bradley tribe know how to produce. Many tokens of esteem were presented by members of the tribes and the friends who were wise to the occassion. Three cakes were required to give space to the candles. The age is not mentioned on account of the social prospects and tender-hearted relations with some of his lady admirers, says the honoree. Vital Statistics Reveal Big Gain In Births Here Twenty-one births--a new record for births in a single Henderson county precinct during a registration period--were recorded here Wednesday for that part of Precinct No. 1 outside of the city of Athens. All the births occurred within a 35 day period. they were registered by B. C. Hall, Justice of the Peace and registrar for the area. He also listed six deaths.
