A Distinguished Visitor
We were pleased to meet in our town this week Major J. L. Wofford of Corinth, Miss. Maj. Wofford is a
cousin of the Woffords of Athens. He was a gallant confederate soldier and was chief of artillery in Gen.
S. D. Lee's army. He several times commanded brigades in important engagements. He was elected to
congress after the Civil War but was kept out of his seat by the republican reconstruction regime. Maj.
Wofford is also and ex-newspaper man, at one time owning the Corinth News. He is quite an
accomplished gentleman of the old school.

WITHDRAWAL
Circumstances are such I find it will be impossible for me to go to Boulder, even if I should be elected, and
I don not feel it would be right to remain in the contest longer under such circumstances, and therefore I
hereby withdraw my name. I am very grateful (sic) indeed to those who have supported me in the race,
and desire to thank them most heartily for their kindness.
Respectfully,
Leila Parker.
