ATHENS, Jan 22. -- [Special] - About 10 o'clock
this morning the roof of the two story frame building occupied by
Mr. Skinner as a dry goods store and post-office, was discovered
to be on fire. The ladder and bucket brigade, commanded by
Colonel T. F. Pelpan, soon appeared at the scene of action, and a
well of water within a few feet of the burning building being
drawn dry, the fire was soon under control, with but little
damage done, only the roof of the house being damaged, and that
being covered with snow burned slow. The cause of the fire was a
defective flue. This is the second fire in this town during two
weeks.
Bud Ware, one of our citizens while but rabbit hunting, on
yesterday, shot some quails, and while trying to catch some of
the wounded birds, ran against a bush, the same penetrating his
ear, causing the blood to gush from his ear, mouth and nose,
wounding him seriously, and at this time he is by his doctor
thought fatally hurt. A piece of the stick has been taken from
his ear, but he is still insensible.
