Ida Valley Items
Ida Valley, Jan. 19-- Editor of ATHENS REVIEW: Responding to your request that each
school community in the county send all its news items to the REVIEW, I will send what
I can gather this week from Ida Valley.
Last Friday night Mrs. J. L. Dickerson was taken severely sick.
W. C. Taylor is on the sick list this week.
W. W. Mixon has established a saloon at Ida Valley.
Messrs. Dickerson and Thrasher of Ida Valley have just received a new line of dry goods
and groceries.  We wish them success in their line of business.
Mr. Tom Adair of Ida Valley got into a scrape with Mr. Bob. Baldwin and got severely
cut.
Our photographer made a flying trip to Liberty Hill last Sunday.
Miss Edna Knight of Pilgrim Rest is guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Taylor this week.
Misses Retta and Georgia Belle Taylor of Ida Valley who have been visiting at Pilgrim
Rest and Athens returned home last Wednesday and reported a pleasant time on their
journey.
Misses Retta and Georgia Belle Taylor and Miss Edna Knight and Messrs. Raymond and
Tommie Knight and Albert Johnson had their pictures taken last Monday and Mr. Walter
L. Wilson, the photographer, says he’ll have to order him a new camera for his old one is
no more good for that crowd demoralized it.
The young people around Pilgrim Rest had an enjoyable time last Friday night at the
dance at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The dance was given in honor of Misses Retta
and Georgia Belle Taylor.
Miss Edna Knight and Misses Retta and Georgia Taylor, Mrs. Ora Clark and Miss Clark
and Etta Knight, Tommie Knight, Albert Johnson, Charley Johnson and Frank Ford
visited where they were grading on the T. &. N. O. railroad last Saturday evening and
report a nice time.
Prof. D. M. Dickerson Jr., who is teaching our school at Elm Springs, reports he has had
good success with his school so far.  We think Prof. Dickerson is a magnificent and
intelligent young man and we wish him success in his business.
Uncle Dave Dickerson Sr., has been on the puny list for some time.
Mr. W. A. Vandiver who is spending the holidays with his parents in Georgia will return
to his home in Texas in a few days.

Brownsboro 
Brownsboro, Texas, Jan. 13--
Dear Editor:
I am going to write a letter to the paper and I want you to excuse me this time with this
bad letter.
Grandmama Holiman is very sick now, and Mr. G. B. Wyatt and child are very sick.
This is the first time I ever wrote from school.
There is a very good little school and we have a good time at school.
Henry Davidson and I went hunting and killed some squirrels. 
We will close for this time. Horace Holiman.

Dauphin School.
Dauphin; Jan. 16 --
Dear Editor:
Our teacher has appointed me to write the news item of the school and community to you
this week.
Our school has not been very full for more than a week owing to the bad weather and so
much sickness.  We have about forty pupils in regular attendance and sixty enrolled. 
Fifty-five is the most we have had in one day.
Mr. Tinsley Williams who was so low with black jaundice at our last writing is reported
much better.
Mr. Pierce’s little child is still very low.
Mrs. Jim Williams is still in bed with catarrhal fever.
Mr. Joe Chriswell is very low with rheumatism.
Mr. Allen Carroll who has been so low with pneumonia is better.
Mrs. Buckner’s little child died yesterday morning and they are going to bury it here
today. (Haven't found a listing for BUCKNER in the Cemetery books that have been published-bf-2002)
Mrs. Rome Haunsel is very low with pneumonia.
Mr. Tom Ellis who has lately bought land and settled a new home in our neighborhood
has gone back to Mississippi.  I have not heard what his sudden idea was for leaving.
Mr. Bob Tanner is right sick this week
Mrs. E. Schrader is having a new house built on her farm adjoining Mr. J. W. Peay.
I am ten years old and I am in the fifth grade.
Mr. Editor, if you will mail a few sample copies of your paper to our teacher we will give
them out and perhaps get some new subscribers for you. With best wishes for the
REVIEW I will close.

Dauphin School

Mr. Editor we notice that the same pupil writes each week from some of the schools. Do you mean to award pupil's prize to this pupil sending the most news items in all, or according to the number of letters we get to write? The correspondence is getting interesting now ..... Mr. Rome Haunsel lost a fine horse last Saturday night ..... Health is getting good again ..... Mrs. Jim Williams is better and is expected to return from her father's in Navarro county next Saturday ..... Jim Williams and his little daughter Ora returned from a visit to her last Thursday. Mr. George Sansing is building a new house on Jim Williams land between here and town. ..... Miss Bettie Hawkins left last Friday for Houston county, the home of her sister, Mrs. George Hickman. ..... Henry Hartzog who is attending school in Kaufman visited his home folks here Sunday. ..... Will Schrader who is teaching school at Pottawottamie was in our midst this week visiting his mother and sister, Mesdames Hartzog and Tinsley Williams. ..... We are glad to have the Pierce children back in our school. ..... Rumor speaks of a wedding here next week. ..... Harry Kimbrel and his mother are going back to Mississippi soon. ..... Presiding Elder Smith preached to us Saturday and Sunday night. ..... Mesdames Dr. Miller and Taylor of Athens were vistors here this week. ..... Messrs. Wilson, Carter and Harrell were here from Malakoff Sunday. ..... Many of the young folks from Oakland were here Sunday.

Our school is improving. We have about 40 pupils in regular attendance. Misses Laura Allen and Eva Schrader were visitors in our school Friday.

D. N. Monro has moved to Mr. Easterwood's for the year. He is boarding.

B. B. Dalton has built a new room to his home. .....
