Flat Creek Special Correspondence
Flat Creek, Sept. 18-
Health is pretty good at this writing and most everyone is finishing gathering their crops.
Jess Warren and family and Mr. and Mrs. Will Loden and children have gone to Kaufman to pick cotton.
Mr. and Mrs. Junior Loden and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bud Dingler spent Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jack.
Mrs. Zula Smith spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Smith of Eustace.
Miss Ina Lou Parrott, who is employed in Athens, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Parrott.
Sunday is the day set for electing new officers for the Sunday School and for calling a pastor. All members are asked to be present.

Walnut Creek Special Correspondence
Walnut Creek, Sept. 17-
Several from this community are attending the revival meeting of the Fundamental Baptist Church of Athens in which Rev. George Crittenden of Fort Worth id soing the preaching. He brings a wonderful message each evening in which a large crowd attends.
Mrs. A. M. Thomas and daughter Sue spent the week end in the Toole community.
Pfc. Rav Watts of Athens and Maurice Hallmark PFC of Fallon Nevada and Mrs. Mattie Watts of LaRue visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Glasgow Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Robert Glasgow and son Jimmie Dean visited her sister, Mrs. Leven Hallmark of LaRue Wednesday. Mrs. Hallmark has been ill, but was better at that time.
Jesse and J. C. Glasgow of Dallas spent Thursday with their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Glasgow.

Stockard Special Correspondence
Stockard, Sept.18-
Many of our soldier boys have returned to their homes lately, some with discharges and others on furloughs, and we welcome them all.
Miss Leota McClelon retured home Sunday from an extended visit in Canton where she has been with friends and relatives.
Bro. Small filled his appointments in church Sunday and Sunday night and had good attendances. It was voted on and carried to begin our revival October 5th as first decided on. The change was suggested by Bro. Bill Carter of Oklahoma who is to conduct the meeting with Bro. Small's help.
Mr. and Mrs. Firmin Harris on their return home from Houston are remodeling and adding more rooms to their house and putting in a butane gas plant and a fine new well with an abundance of good water.
Mr. and Mrs. Shell Watterson have remodeled their rooms and are doing lots of other improving.
We hope it will soon be ready for them to move back in their house.
Clifford Shaver took off a big truck of cattle to market Monday.
Mrs. Hubert Hughes has gone to Atlanta, Texas to be with her husband who has employment there. Their little son, Marvin, will remain with her mother, Mrs. Hinkle and attend school in Athens.
Firmin Harris is in Dallas today on business accompanied by Mrs. Dave Hughes, Mrs. Firmin Harris's mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Caddell and family of Athens attended services here Sunday at church.
Mrs. Chas. Richardson's sister of Dallas visited with her part of last week.
Leslie Cole of Dallas is doing the carpentering of Firmin Harris.
Please remember Mrs. Averile Greenhaw will meet with the Stockard Home Demonstration Club on Wednesday, September 26, so be sure and come if possible, and bring a covered dish.
Pickering Aboard Cruiser Louisville When Japanese Quit
Rayford B. Pickering, gunner's mate, second class, USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hubart A. Pickering, LaRue, was at his station on the cruiser Louisville in the Pacific when news of the final capitulation of the Japanese was announced over the loud speaker in mid afternoon, August 14.
It wasn't a riotous reception with which the crew greeted the news.
The feeling was rather one of relief, because the tension had been so great in the closing days of the war.


Womack and Hellner Veterans of ETO, Due
Staff Sergeant George C. Womack of Malakoff and Cpd. Eddie P. Hellner of Trinidad, 17th Airborne Division, are expected to return to the States soon from the ETO.
Sgt. Womack, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Womack, served as platoon sergeant in the 508th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Division, and participated in the campaigns of Normandy, Holland, the Rhineland and the Ardennes.
Cpl. Hellner, whose wife lives at Trinidad, is with the 325th Glider Inwantry, 82nd Division, and participated in the Battle of the Belgian Bulge and the campaigns of Holland and Germany.


Sgt. Shelton Arrives For Visit in Athens
Staff Sergeant and Mrs. Ernest Shelton, the former a veteran of overseas service, have arrived in Athens for a thirty-day visit with Sgt. Shelton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Shelton.
Sgt. Shelton, with the Bureau Air Depot, saw service in England, Russia and France.
His wife resides in Dallas.

Sgt. Sims Receives Discharge From Army Back In States Soon
Sgt. Willie V. Sims of Malakoff, who has been stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama, for the last few months, has received a discharge from the service.
He entered the Army in 1940 with the National Guard Company from Athens and has been connected with the 144th Infantry, Anti-tank Company.

Funeral Services For Will Faulk Wednesday Afternoon 3 o'Clock
Funeral services for Will Faulk, who died Sunday night at 9:30 o'clock at his home south of Malakoff, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home Chapel.
The services were conducted by the Rev. McKee, pastor of the Methodist church of Malakoff, and Rev. R. E. Bost, pastor of the Malakoff Baptist church.
Burial was in the City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were R. H. Lee, W. W. Spencer, Shug Stirman, John Dean, Paul Bankston, Maynard Fowler, LeRoy Kirby and Joe Barnett.
The Clyde Humphries Funeral Home of Malakoff was in charge of arrangements.
