Eustace School Starts; Officers Chosen Eustace September 17--Our school started on September 8. Parents as well as the children were proud when the 1st school bell sounded that meant summer vacations were over. The following candidates for Queen and Princesses have been nominated Helen Chambers, senior; Avenal Cain, Junior; Francis Pennington, Sophomore; Melessia Ross, Freshman. Candidates for Princesses; La Dell Meredith, 8th grade; Janelle Lewis 7th grade; Linda Campbell, 6th grade; Patsy Jones, 5th grade; Rose Mary Davis, 4th grade; Jean Derham, 3rd grade; Glenda Andrews, 2nd grade; Patsy Cook, 1st grade. The Student Council office announces the following class officers: Senior Class--Glenn Reynolds, president; Mike LaRue, 1st vice-president; Lonnie Stegall, 2nd vice-president; Helen Chambers, secretary. Junior Class--Bill Phillips, vice president; Beverly Chambers, secretary. Sophmore Class--Wayne Gantt, vice president; Frances Pennington, secretary. Freshman Class--Jerrell Smith, vice-president; Gayle Smith, secretary. F. F. A. officers for the year are: Chairman Randell; Vice-President, Marlin; Secretary, Bill Phillips, Treasurer Stanley Graham; Reporter, Kent Graham; Sentinel Oral Ashton; Parlimentarian, Jesse Carter, 1st Vice-President Billy Guthrie; 2nd Vice-President, Harold Griffith, 3rd Vice-President, George Meredith; Song Leader, Charles Anthony. The First Baptist Church reported an attendance of 107 present for Sunday School Sunday. A Quarterly Conference directed by District Superintendent, R. C. Terry, for the Methodist churches of Eustace, Pickens Spur, Payne Springs and Crescent Heights was held at Crescent Heights Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. The Methodist Church reported an attendance of 47 for Sunday School Sunday. Nancy Ann and Butch Wilkins from Houston are visiting in the home of their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Finis Griffith. Sgt. Robert T. Pickle returned to Roswell Air Force Base, New Mexico Sunday after spending a four day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs Bill Pickle. Sgt. Pickle has just returned to the United States after spending three months in England. Mrs. Billie Nell Southerland returned to her home in Port Arthur Monday after spending several days with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pickle. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lewis of Dallas spent the week end in the homes of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Lewis and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hutchison. Mr. and Mrs. Mason Dansby of Phoenix, Arizona are visiting in the home of Mrs. Willie Erickson. Sue Norman, Sandra and Jacquelynn have returned home after three weeks visit with her aunt in Premont and friends in San Antonio. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Evans and sons of Houston were week end visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Wheat. Mrs. Ellen Shanahan was a Sunday visitor in the home of her son, Rev. G. L. Shanahan, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Miss Colleen Murray, a senior of Hardin-Simmons College of Abilene, and her mother, Mrs. H. C. Murray of Kermit, were also visitors in Rev. Shanahan's home. It was the first time Mrs. H. C. Murray, a sister of Rev. Shanahan had seen her brother in seven years. Mrs. Morrison Is First to Identify Brownlow Farm Identification fo Mystery Farm No. 21 was made Thursday by Mrs. A. M. Morrison of Crescent Heights who recognized it as the home of Mrs. haynie Brownlow in the same community. She came by the Review Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and a check with Mrs. Brownlow's daughter, Mrs. C. W. Brown proved the identificatin correct. The award of two glasses by Texas-glass was given to Mrs. Morrison. Mrs. Brown, who operates Leona's Beauty Shop in Athens, and her husband live with Mrs. Brownlow, who is her mother. The house is located about four and a half miles West of Athens between the new and old Malakoff highways. In the past the community was known as Walnut Creek. During the past 10 years no farming has been done on the place. Mrs. Brownlow has lived in the home for about 50 years. Mother of Frankston Men dies in Marlin Funeral services were held in Marlin this week for Mrs. Lula A. Campbell, 82, who died there at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Campbell. Surviving are four sons, W. O. Campbell and H. E. Campbell of Frankston, and O. N. Campbell and P. E. Campbell of Marlin; three brothers A. A. Latimer of Marlin, C. A. Latimer of Brady and J. R. Latimer of Crowell. Rock Hill Mrs. Herrington is Feted with Dinner Rock Hill September 17--Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Herrington entertained with a birthday dinner Sunday, honoring his mother, Mrs. Herrington, of Tyler. Those present were Gay Herrington of Dallas, Mrs. Colthorp of Edom, Mrs. Bud McMillin of Brownsboro, Mrs. Bonnie Grace Jenkins of Tyler and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clayton of this community. Mrs. Major Brown suffered a heart attack last Wednesday. We are glad to report her condition improved, and may soon get to leave the hosptial. She is in a Tyler hosptial. |
Brownsboro Donald Jarrett Hurt in Accident Brownsboro September 17--Mrs. Felix Parker was called to Houston last week to be at the bedside of her husband, who was critically ill in the Vererans Hospital there. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Brown and children and Mrs. Virgie McKnight were last Sunday guests of relatives in Dallas. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Horton of Athens were Sunday guests of his mother Mrs. A. C. Horton. Mrs. J. C. Ingram and Miss LaFawn Ingram of Brownsville were recent guests of their aunt, Mrs. Malena Moss. Mr. and Mrs. Gwin Fulgham and children left last week for Houston, where the former will resume his studies at a Dental College there. Ed Jackson, who is employed in Louisiana, was a week end guest of his family here. The W. S. C. S. of the Methodist Church are having a pie and cake sale every Saturday morning. Mrs. Lonnie Barton was a recent visitor in Dallas. Ivy Fulgham was speaker as the Edom Methodist Church on Sunday morning. Coye and Ruben Corbett Ellis of Chandler were week end guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rube Barton. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Ellis, were were week end visitors in Corpus Christi. Mrs. Bettie Garner and daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Porter and baby have recently moved here from Frankston. Mrs. Lorena Jarrett and Jim Chapman were recently in Abilene at the bedside of their son and son-in-law, Donald Jarrett who was injured in a car accident. Mrs. Cassie Paul is a patient at the Coats and Brown Clinic in Tyler. She suffered a broken hip in a fall at her home near here. Mrs. J. B. Davis is a patient at a hospital in Tyler. Mrs. J. P. Moody is a visitor in Chicago, Illinois. Rev. and Mrs. James Thompson are attending the Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth a few days every week. Jeffie Gene Dingler who is in the U. S. Navy and stationed at a Naval base in California is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Dingler. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Carroll of Longview were Sunday guests of her grandmother, Mrs. Lula Buck. F. H. Witherspoon is spending a few weeks with his daughter in Fort Worth. Mrs. Kate Splawn is visiting in California. Mrs. Lillie Brown is ill and in the Medical and Surgical Clinic in Tyler. Mrs. J. F. Jackson, Jr., of Tyler and her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Kennedy, of Corsicana were Sunday guests in the J. F. Jackson home. C. W. Jackson, H. D. Bass, Jim Featherston and C. C. Boles were in Houston Sunday to visit Felix Parker who was a patient in the Veterans's Hospital. Mrs. G. W. Gunter has returned from a visit with her mother in San Angela. Mrs. Castleberry and daughter, Mrs. John W. Barton of Tyler were recent visitors in Brownsville. Mrs. Mark Whittington has returned home after being in Fort Worth for a few weeks. Mrs. Willie Scott of Plainview is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hamlett Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert McCreary of Palestine were Sunday guests of Rev. and Mrs. Brady Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Barry and daughter and Mrs. Judy Barry and of Grand Saline were Sunday visitors here. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wyatt and family have returned home from California after several weeks visit there. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Harrison and baby and Mrs. Jess Harrison have also arrived home from California. |
