Picayune - New Orleans Louisiana Wed. June 7, 1893 WRECK NEAR ATHENS, TEX. A Train Goes Through a Bridge -- Several Persons Injured. Athens, Tex., June 6 -- (Special) -- The local southbound fell through Duncan creek bridge, ten miles east of Athens. Six cars, including the coach, were derailed, caused by the bridge giving way. No one was killed but several are hurt. The wounded were brought here for medical aid. The wounded are: Thos. Melvin, passenger, of Brownsboro, hand broken and cut over the left eye; W J Lasiter, of Rusk, cut on the head and bruised on the body; J D Odom, passenger, bruised on head, legs and shoulder and arm; B Fain, brakeman, head and face badly cut; Warren, section foreman, struck by flying timber and badly hurt by a piece of timber being thrust in the thigh. |
