Forty Athens Men Join New Home Guard
Athens, Texas

Forty Athens men have joined the newly organized Home Guard unit
and twenty-three more recruits are being sought to bring the
company up to strength prescribed by the Texas Defense Guard Act.
Leon Barron, Athens farm equipment dealer is
captain and Robert Faulk, State Highway
Department forman is first lieutenant. Harris Burton,
telephone company employee, has been commissioned as second
lieutenant of the company. Barron is a World War
veteran who was active for a number of years in the Texas
National Guard following the war.
Drills are being held each Tuesday evening at the Fair Park
Coliseum which formerly served as an armory for the Athens tank
company of the Texas National Guard now in training at Brownwood.
