Mrs. M. E. Edgar visited with her parents in
Dallas.
W. E. Johnson, of the Baxter community enrolled with the review
for another year.
The Malakoff Public School carried an advertisment in this issue
offering ten full grades. A. S. Tanner was President of the Board
and T. J. Paine was prinicipal of the school. He has three
assistant teachers.
Editor Yantis went up to Dallas friday evening to witness the
opening of the great Dallas State Fair Saturday. It being press
day he expected and was not disapointed, to meet a goodly number
of the press gang.
A ten day Holiness meeting was announced to begin at Pine Grove
Friday night, Nov 3. The notice was signed by W. M. Mitchell.
The literary society at Mill Run reorganized Saturday night with
Lum Scott, president, Joe Owen vice president, Miss Fannie
Murphy, secretary and Frank Burr, sergent-at-arms according to
local reporter.
W. R. Caldwell is building him a fine residence now. This makes
Bill a fixture still, which we are glad to note.
A list of letters that remained uncalled for at the post office
was "advertised" by Post Master W. A. Hawn, who
chargesd 1c additional postage on those called for and delivered.
An article under an El Paso date line gave the information that
"Chas Funk, a Chinaman forbidden to enter the U. S. and Mrs.
Kate Berry Rusconi, a Japanese widow who could not marry in
Mexico until she had worn weeds for two years, circumvented the
laws of both nations by being married in the center of the
International Bridge across the Rio Grande. A large crowd
witnessed the wedding and showered the couple with rice after the
ceremony which was performed by Justice Mitchell of El Paso.
"The T. & N. O. ran a special from Jacksonville to
Dallas Minday, on account of Barnum and Bailey show.
The States of Mississippi and Louisiana were in a tilt over the
responsibility for the outbreak of the yellow fever. Each state
claimed the infection occured in the other.
W. C. Smith and H. P. Barton of Malakoff shipped 450 head of
stock cattle to Galveston Friday. We understand these cattle
finally go to Cuba.
The advertisment of "The Klondike, Sam and Lee's
Place," gave the advice "No side-board to complete
without a bottle of good whiskey for medical and family use.
H. C. Mecham's Big Store in a full page ad offered sewing thread
per spool 1c; 20 yards LL brown domestic for $1.00, 2 yards
common valencine lace, 1c. The best teagel down at 10c yard,
Ladies jackets 2.50 to $3.50. Men's suite for $3.90. 54 inch
broad cloth at 95c yard.Typed as appears in article. LGR
