Athens Weekly Review
Thursday, Nov. 14, 1963

Athens has seen the opening of one new motel this year, The Flame, and soon the new Spanish Trace will hold its open house.
These fine hosteleries together with the Andrews Courts and other motels in town provide Athens with facilities that really can't be matched by any other town in Texas of comparable size unless it is Nacogdoches.
Back is 1912 when The Athens Inn (now Athens Hotel) opened times were a bit different from today. We take many of the modern conveniences found in every motel for granted, but the Athens Inn proudly proclaimed "Hot and cold water running on three floors. All modern conveniences." This one will really get you! "Rates: 50c and 75c," and you get to stay in a new three-story hotel.
On the letterhead that contained this information appeared the following: Shampoo to make 5 gal. By carbonate pottassium 2/3 lbs., C. C. soap 3 bars,
Alcohol 3 oz., Oil Sasafras 3 oz., Oil Birgmat 1/2 dram.
If you try it loose your hair, don't blame us.
